A little appreciation post :)

I’ve been a little MIA lately (work has been… a lot 😭) and I kinda lost touch with the things that genuinely make me happy.

But coming back to books, and this community, and all the conversations around stories has honestly made me feel so seen :))

It’s funny how something as simple as picking up a book, sharing a post, or screaming about fictional characters can bring back a little piece of yourself.

Anyway…We are so back 🤸🏻‍♀️ by @_reaperarchive

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie 4.5/5 ⭐️

My first Joe Abercrombie book and honestly… what an introduction. The writing is sharp, dark, hilarious and completely unhinged in the best way. The characters are morally questionable disasters lol and the humour had me laughing at the most unexpected moments, and somehow this massive book never felt like a drag.

It’s chaotic, violent, absurd and ridiculously entertaining ,basically everything I want from a fantasy that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Definitely see why Abercrombie has the reputation he does 👀

Def gonna start The First Law trilogy soon :)

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

my rating: 4/5 ⭐️

The atmosphere??? 10/10. The whole New England college setting, Greek class, winter, old money, isolation… Donna Tartt absolutely knew what she was doing. It feels dark and almost dreamlike, and you KNOW from the beginning that something has gone horribly wrong, which somehow makes you want to keep reading anyway.

The characters are probably my favourite part because none of them are exactly likeable, but you can’t stop being fascinated by them. They’re intelligent, elitist, deeply messed up and SO full of themselves Lol. And the way the group dynamic slowly gets more disturbing😭
That said… this book is SLOW. Like slowww afffff!!!

But the payoff is what makes the whole thing work. It’s less of a “what happens next???” thriller and more of a “how the hell did these people get themselves into THIS mess?” kind of story.

Dark academia done properly.
Beautiful writing, incredible atmosphere, deeply unhinged characters

I would def recommend it, but only if you’re okay with a SLOW burn
