One of the biggest struggles I see MDs have is transitioning between keys whether it’s song to song or moment to momentA lot of times the “weird” or scary key changes only feel awkward because we’re afraid to take the chance. Some of my smoothest transitions happened from just trusting my ear in the moment.A few things that help me:• Wait for the crowd clap to hide the keys change 👏🏽• Fade a latch/pad and replay the SAME progression in the new key 🎹• Keep the same melody so the room moves with you instead of against youThe goal isn’t making it complicated… it’s making it feel natural.
