31 was *an* age and 2024 was *a* year, both of which frequently felt like a challenging obstacle course. But one habit I’ve been focusing on lately is expressing gratitude for the good things in my life. And looking back there were plenty of good moments to be proud of and grateful for. Here are some of the highlights:
- After being benched for 2 years due to IT Band problems, I’ve started running races again! Few 5ks, a 10k trail race and a Half Marathon. More races to come as I continue to get back in shape!
- I got to meet Emily Rudd and it was by far my favorite celebrity encounter at any Con! She was an absolute pleasure to talk with (we bonded over One Piece + Buckaroo Banzai and she loved a question I asked her at her panel) and was so kind to me overall (actually recognizing me later on in the day and holding up a line so that she could thank me for the earlier question 🤯 💕 )! Wishing her nothing but continued success 🙂
- Also at a Con I met Alan Tudyk who I think is one of the most underrated actors out there. The man has left his mark on Firefly, Star Wars, Disney, etc and he appreciated me expressing my appreciation for him for that.
- After working on offshore wind for several years I got to kick off my attendance at professional conferences via IPF, the largest OSW conference in the country. The future of the industry is uncertain but the content and attendance there shows there’s still a lot of momentum going for it which I’m contributing to.
- Speaking of career work, I got to present at the US Department of Energy on the work I’ve been doing this past year!
- After a ~4 year hiatus, I started doing improv comedy again and managed to get a lot of laughs during the class performance.
- In general, I really have several good sets of friends that work hard on clean energy, work hard in training for races, practicing improv, and just being good people 🙂.

Truthfully I don’t know what age 32/year 2025, and beyond hold for me and the world. But I’m grateful for everything that went well this past year and the people that helped make the high points the high points. Here’s to all the future good things coming my way to be grateful for 🫡 by @_rgramb0117

After two previous attempts to try and run the Baltimore Running Festival’s Marathon didn’t pan out, I finally did it on October 18th! If I thought getting to the starting line healthy and ready was a tough task, the course itself was another Herculean task as well (especially miles 16-21). But I’m Graham the Man Barrett and even a tough course was no match for me, finishing it in 3 hours 40 minutes and 51 seconds!!!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me on my recovery from injuries these last couple of years and the training process for this race these last several months. I can now look forward to other races and life goals with this particular beast out of the way finally 🙂🏃🙂🏃 👍🏾 👍🏾

Been some time, here’s a photo dump and some life updates from the first half of 2026:
- Over Ten years since becoming a Whovian and I got to meet My 1st Doctor! Meeting David Tennant was a blast! He said I looked very sharp, appreciated my kind words for his work on two of my favorite sci fi franchises, thought it was cool I shared a birthday with Doctor Who (we joked about how I look younger but maybe older than the show because of big balls of timey wimey stuff), and he recognized me at the Photo Op/held my Sonic Screwdriver!
- My road to recovery and the next Marathon continues despite some issues with multiple wins! I broke 70 minutes at Broad Street for the first time in a few years. Also ran Blob Fest for the first time as my inaugural run as a pacer! Fun times!
- Continuing to meet and making new friends in assorted running communities and beyond!
- Technically mostly set in 2025, but I found my way to LA for a bit and had fun indulging my cinephile self

The year has had its ups and downs but here’s to all the ups and hopefully more of them to come! by @_rgramb0117

Autumn 2025 Life Updates:
- Had one of my favorite trips to NYC, felt appropriately “October-esque” due to the leaves and visiting an abandoned smallpox hospital right around Halloween. On a lighter note, I met the OG Silly Old Bear in the New York Public Library.
- Added to my stable of Harrison Ford cosplays by going as everyone’s favorite smuggler/scoundrel/Rebel Hero (just don’t call me scruffy-looking). Highlights included a cameo by a tenured professor of archaeology and an unfortunate dip in a carbon freezing chamber after tell a Dark Lord’s Princess daughter “I Know”
- I ran the Princeton Half Marathon for the second year in a row and I cut 9 minutes off of last year’s time! It’s a good sign my body’s road to recovery continues!

With a few days until 33, I will say 32 and 2025 was rough at points and there’s still work to be done. But moments like these do make me hopeful 🙂

We’re halfway through 2025 so here’s a photo dump and major life update recap:
- Caught the acting bug again and took a class at Walnut Street Theater to get back into shape! Had a wonderful time with a great teacher and classmates putting on “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)”. Hoping to do more performances again soon!
- After doing offshore wind work on and off for a while, I took a boat trip and actually got to visit a project!
- Did my first Broad Street Run in over 5 years. No Personal Best but ran 6 minutes faster than my goal which is a good sign of my recovery!
- Had a blast at FanExpo Philly meeting several actors I admire. Andy Serkis’ loved my story about my dad eagerly wanting to see Tintin (only person that weekend to mention Tintin), John Boyega appreciated my kind words about Attack the Block, and John Rhys Davis thought my career path is very interesting and cool journey. And all three loved the Indiana Jones costume (Sallah thought Indy never looked so good)!
- Even though it feels like I just graduated college I did attend my 10th year reunion (which added to the bizarre temporal ambiguities). Still it was nice catching up with so many of my classmates! by @_rgramb0117

On a better note from this past week, I did my first Half Marathon in 5 years and the longest race since my injury. Not a PR (getting closer to it again though) but I did beat the goal I set for the race. Ultimately a nice measuring point for the next race(s)/my road to recovery and I’m gonna chalk this up as a win. Onwards and upwards!

What I tell non anime fans my costume is: A redhead pirate character from a Japanese series.

What I tell Weebs and Nakamas: I’m Red Hair Shanks, former apprentice for the Roger Pirates, current Captain of the Red Hair Pirates and one of the Four Emperors. Now let’s drink up, my boy Luffy just got a new bounty poster! 🏴‍☠️ 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

I’ve been wearing this costume on and off this year. It’s been worth the red hairspray because of all the compliments I’ve been getting on the costume from other fans. The best part though was getting one set of compliments from one One Piece fan in particular earlier this year (see the last pic 🙂 ❤️🍊 ❤️)

Had a wonderful week down in DC presenting on the work I’ve been doing this last year for my DOE fellowship! It was great to finally meet the other fellows, they’re all very smart and very friendly+cool! The DOE, their host institutions and Clean Energy is very lucky to have them 🙂⚡️⚡️ by @_rgramb0117

First race in 2+ years! Still dealing with injuries at the moment but that didn’t slow me down today. Both of the miles were 6:38 each, meaning that I can run sub 7 minute miles even when still slightly injured and not running every day. Next step is to keep healing and keep running more races and get faster and faster!

Thank you to everyone that came out today to support the East Falls Flyers! 🌶️ 🐌 🏃
