“Maaya thagani, sada suhagini, bhesh badal ke loote..”
Kumar Manjul’s words for “Maya” don’t flatter illusion - they name it. A Nirgun Sufi telling that calls out Maya for what she is: the great deceiver, the eternal bride who changes her face to rob us all - saints, sinners, pandits, kings.
It takes courage to sing truths this old, this direct. Our vocalist and co-composer @_rishianuj_ stood in front of the full ensemble - the folk instrumentalists of UP and the Western fusion section together - and let the lyrics do what they’ve always done: strip away pretense.
No polish to soften the message. Just voice, band, and the words as they were meant to be heard.
Take a listen. Connect with the heritage in every string, every beat.
DM us to support, collaborate, and experience these sounds - created with dignity, carried forward with intention.

Some songs need a studio. “Maya” needed a 200-year-old banyan tree.
We recorded this amid Uttar Pradesh’s timeless folk rhythms by the Gomti River - under the eternal Akshay Wat’s unbreakable branches, in Harivansh Baba’s serene abode - with the locals gathered around, part of the moment, not just witnesses to it. Three Kathak dancers @ravii_yadav__ @gourigoyal_15 @suman_rangta moved through the emotion of the song, tracing Maya’s illusion in expression and footwork, grounding the Nirgun Sufi in movement as old as the words themselves.
This is the joy of it - not just making music, but making it here, together, in a place that already understood everything the song was trying to say.
Take a listen. Connect with the heritage in every string, every beat.

Maya is more than just a song it’s a reflection. Of illusion, of attachment, and of everything we believe will last.

Rooted in the traditions of Uttar Pradesh, we’ve drawn from the grace of Kathak where every ghungroo, every spin, and every expression tells a story beyond words.

“When the location becomes part of the choreography.”

In this behind-the-scenes glimpse of MAYA, Ravi Yadav - choreographer and lead performer - shares how the sacred Akshay Vat (banyan tree) at Harivansh Baba Ashram became the perfect canvas for the song’s spirit.

Chosen by Shefali Khanna Ma’am, the location’s calm energy and divine atmosphere matched the depth of MAYA beautifully, turning every movement into a spiritual expression.

Watch Ravi perform alongside Kathak artists Suman Rangta and Gouri Goyal, as all three bring the essence of Nirgun philosophy to life through rhythm, grace, and devotion.

This is more than a dance BTS - It’s the heart of Maya.
The energy. The location. The movement. 🕉️

Ever wonder what happens before the "Record" button is pressed? Here is a look at the laughter, the practice, and the hard work that went into making 𝐌𝐀𝐘𝐀. We wanted to capture the true spirit of UP’s folk music, and it all starts here.
