NO SMOKING: In This Theatre by @nkshtrrr perfectly scratches that brain itch of “where have I heard that before?” The influences aren’t subtle, the project sets the tone immediately with a sample from Can I Kick It? by ATCQ and carries a J Dilla–esque atmosphere throughout. It’s a seamless blend of samples from Nujabes, Pharrell, Ye, Tame Impala, and others that still have me mentally digging for the samples.

You’re left with more than the album takes from you, its familiar textures create a kind of sonic cinema. It feels less like an album and more like a 28-minute short film. I find myself returning to this project every few days just to disconnect.

CHAKRAVYUH by Navgun (@nah.navgun) & ARSLAN (@cookinninetyproof) unravels itself like a psychological maze. Driven by a tension between self-awareness and hunger: the instinct to distrust everything while still wanting the world, its approval, its danger. Navgun spits with the confidence of someone who’s been wronged too many times and still refuses to bow. References to DOOM, Bukowski, Taxi Driver, and Hari Singh show his lyrical prowess while also serving as a placeholder for the role of a lone observer of the world.

Across its seamlessly produced tracks, Navgun builds a world of secrecy, suspicion, locked archives, and emotional inheritance. “Real good with words, sell a mirror to a blind person” and “Lost is a man who leaves his home just to seek his truth” speak to the duality: the salesman and the seeker. These themes are also reinforced by a line in the closing song “Before you Pray for Paris, I hope you pray for your seven sisters.”

By the end, Chakravyuh feels less like music and more like someone’s internal compass spinning in real time. It is layered, literary, and deliberate. To find yourself, you may have to first lose everything that kept you safe.

Shauhar urf flamboyant farookh urf nawabjaan urf raja babu

We've lost the art of world building in music through fleshed out characters - we've seen tyler bring it back after DOOM. In my conversations with shauhar, this is exactly what he's trying to bring back. He dresses, creates, speaks, acts and behaves in the specific character from the album era.

Madheera was a stepping stone for this, this jarring crate jazz hip hop album with a rusty production very quickly grows on you. A mixture of sounds from Earl Sweatshirt, MF DOOM, and Freddie Gibbs. References from ja rule, nas, inglorious basterds - his musicality is filled with all that inspires him. Produced by @sahebpakeezah and @cookinninetyproof

His voice is slurry to imbibe the effects of madheera (alcohol), and you can see that in the way he raps in the album, or his rollout interviews with inqalaab. His next character is his own self (farookh), two singles from the upcoming album are already out. Also, one of the sweetest person in my life rn @nawaaabjaaan

NPR is not the only tiny desk that Action Bronson (Arian Asllani) is associated with, he’s also a long time chef. In fact, he’s more a chef than a rapper - he started rapping because his broken leg kept him out of the kitchen.

As an ex-chef for the Mets, he has a cooking show with Vice called “Fuck, that’s Delicious” which started back in 2016. Action has easily become one of the legends in the culinary world and he also his own cookbook (someone buy this for me pls).

Also sharing a quote by him that’s very close to my heart - “Music & food go hand in hand. The dish in the middle of the table is like the song you put on for everyone to start grooving to”. by @_rishiraj_
