POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

My show, Spotlight, opens in a little over one week! Feel free to catch my work over at the the Debra March Gallery!

A little about the show: Las Vegas is a city known for its vibrant nightlife and exuberant performances. It offers spectacles found nowhere else in the world. Spotlight is meant to illuminate the different types of performers we see throughout the city. This includes the loud and outrageous performers of the stage and the personal and more intimate performances you can find in the quieter parts of the city.

From Las Vegas show rooms to closed door karaoke, this curation of paintings shows a variety of people expressing the need to be seen. Drag queens, singers, strip performers, psychics, gogo dancers and more are all depicted performing their craft before the masses. These paintings take the ephemerality and emotionality of expressive movement and capture them in a permanent snapshot of stillness.

By bringing the energy of nightlife into the gallery, Spotlight reframes these portraits as cultural icons. Here, the stage extends onto the canvas, and the audience is invited to witness the performers not just as entertainment but as enduring symbols of creativity and community.

Absolute gems from Romina Villarreal at last week's Sitting Still

”I am enamored by the body. My life is spent depicting humanity in its natural settings to evoke emotions ranging from euphoria and serenity to tension and isolation. I seek out moments that show the ephemerality of life. Moments of tender embraces or frantic gayety that show the absolute polarity of living..."

This week at the Lab: Sitting Still, featuring Q'shaundra James, Romina Villarreal, and Justin Webb

Sitting Still is a portrait exhibition investigating the contemporary figure. Local portraiture powerhouses, Q’shaundra James, Romina Villarreal, and Justin Webb reimagine folks through color, light, history, action, and inaction. Between liquid media, these artists articulate the gaze of their respective lives through seeing others.

Q’Shaundra James is a multidisciplinary artist working as a portrait painter, muralist and graphic designer. Her work is permanently on view at LAS Capital One Lounge, Somerset Academy, Cashman Field and UNLV Student Union. Recently, Las Vegas Weekly’s media coverage for Q’Shaundra’s first solo exhibition, “Beyond the Veil of Left Center Gallery” made the top favorite moments of 2025. Additionally, she was an awarded recipient for Nevada Arts Council FY25 Project Grant for Artists.

Romina Villarreal is a mixed-media painter with an emphasis on figurative expression. Through this, she explores the lives and experiences of stigmatized groups. Her work delves deep into the complexities of mental health, sexuality, ethnicity, and spirituality, providing insight into these often neglected areas of society. by @_rominavilla_

We make trouble. We make art. We make community.

Founded by Kayla Lockwood (@social.sin) and Romina Villarreal (@bootycutiequeen), CUT / CUTS is a no-bullshit, artist-run collective challenging conventions, censorship, and traditional gallery norms. Through solo and group exhibitions, guerrilla pop-ups, alternative projects, and experimental programming, we support work that pushes boundaries and explores new forms of creative expression.

💥 What We Do
• Solo and group exhibitions often overlooked by mainstream galleries
• Guerrilla pop-ups in unconventional spaces, including UHaul trucks
• Panels, workshops, and reading circles on risk, queer practices, and radical making

🚨 Our Principles
• Nudity, radical ideas, sexuality, and “taboo” subjects are welcomed as vital aspects of creative practice
• We value work that challenges, provokes, and refuses compromise
• Who’s welcome: emerging, mid-career, and established artists of all genders, sexualities, races, and spiritual paths
• Who’s NOT welcome: bigotry, oppressive ideologies, or any work that harms or diminishes others

✨ Our Goals
• Champion uncensored expression
• Support innovative curatorial practices
• Foster community and collaboration
• Elevate marginalized voices
• Experiment with unconventional exhibition models

We create space for dialogue, experimentation, and boundary-pushing work—building a community where artists can take risks without compromise.

I’m excited to invite you to She Will Be Hearing From Me Tonight, a group exhibition presented at Grant Hall Gallery on the UNLV campus.

This exhibition examines the chaotic, absurd, and darkly humorous behaviors that surface when boundaries are ignored after a relationship ends. Through unwanted messages, awkward gestures, and desperate stunts, the works unravel a comedy of crossed lines—moments so excessive they teeter between discomfort and laughter. By reframing these experiences through humor and exaggeration, the exhibition asks viewers to reflect on boundary-crossing, obsession, and the spectacle that can emerge when attachment and miscommunication collide.

Exhibition Details:
📍 Grant Hall Gallery, UNLV
📅 February 9–20, 2026
🕒 Opening Reception: February 20, 2026 | 5–8 PM
✨ Mental health resources provided by the @carecenter_snv

Join us for the closing reception as we celebrate the artists and kick off the semester with our creative community.
