San Pedro OCR done and in the books! Had a few amazing races but tried to learn as much as we could from just behind the pack. It’s pretty tough racing against the top 10 teams in the world!

Unofficially qualified Canada for the Pan American Games, things are looking up for the future!

🌍 On top of the World! 🥇

Just wrapped up a week of racing on Lake Tuusula in Finland for the Lightning Youth World Championship. After four days of intense racing Rory, Gustave, and I were fortunate to come away with the win. This makes us WORLD CHAMPIONS!!! Truly a dream come true.

A massive thanks goes to the Finnish Lightning Class for organizing and hosting this well run event, the Lightning class for welcoming us into their community and to Luke, Micheal, and Matt back home for getting us started in the Lightning. taken in Lake Tuusula by @_rory.w_

🥉at US 470 Nationals and top Canadian team after 3 weeks of sailing together!

A week of training and then 3 days of racing off the South Shore of Long Island New York was a blast. We made a few mistakes and learned a lot. (Missing second by 2 points!) Progressing well and looking forward to LA.

Thanks to the Oyster Bay team for providing the boats and Yevgeniy for the coaching! taken in Long Island Maritime Museum by @_rory.w_

First Regatta in the 470! Huge learning experience, but also immensely fun times over in Long Island NY for the 470 North Americans. Finished a solid 7/10.

Thanks to @hawkosailing for crewing for me, as well as the @us470class for the charter boats and all their help. Can’t wait for the next one!

Also, thanks to @elliottarluck for the photos!

(I know my spinnaker says USA, that’ll change for next time)

ILCA Mid Winters East in a Full Rig! My first large 7 event turned out better than I expected, as I missed the qualifications for the Junior Pan-am games by a nail bitting 3 points! It turns out I can sail a full rig

St Pete delivered!

🚨Breaking News from Miami, Florida. Royal Vancouver Yacht Club’s, Rory Walsh makes RVYC history winning the ILCA 6 class at the 2023 @tuuciorangebowlregatta held December 26-30, the last major North American event on the yearly calendar. This win is an exclamation point on a superb 2023 campaign for BC’s Male Youth Sailor of the Year, Walsh which included a U19 North American Championship, a Canadian National Championship and runner up at CORK to keep the 🔥 burning. Also, placing in the top 10, our fellow BC Team member from WVYC Andre Deseau finished an impressive 9th, while his brother Gustav also sailed a strong event in the top 30. And, Royal Van’s ILCA 4 Alice Wan sailed a great event as well for her first major finishing in the top 20. None of this would have been possible without great coaching led by @marurban Many thanks also to @ur_sailing_ clinic coaches @stevemitchellcoaching @pmascarenhas @amaya__escudero

Huge congratulations to Rory and team and a big thank you to RVYC members for their unwavering support of High Performance Sailing at the club. Happy New Year from Royal Van Racing! Here’s to continued growth in 2024💥
