POSTS STORIES REELS

It may be news to some, but in many parts of Africa, dementia is still misconceived as witchcraft.

This misconception, rooted in a lack of awareness and sensitization, forces many people living with dementia to suffer in silence, in fear of stigma, neglect, and isolation.

As September marks World Alzheimer’s Month, there is no better time to break the silence.

I conducted personal research on dementia in Africa, and I am sharing my findings in this upcoming documentary.

This trailer is just the beginning.

To every person living with dementia who feels forgotten, and to every family who feels they have lost hope because they lack the right support, information and skills to provide care - this is for you. You are not alone. There is hope, there is help, and there is a community that cares.

It is time to replace myths with understanding, fear with compassion, and stigma with support.

The full documentary is coming soon.

Back on the streets of Kaduna, listening, learning and hearing different perspectives as part of my research. One thing I’ve realised is that everyone has a story and an opinion worth hearing.

Now I’m curious, if I stopped you on the street for a quick interview, would you talk to me or walk away?

Somewhere by the sea, I found me.🤭❤️

This time, I took the conversation to the streets to find out what my everyday people actually know about dementia and Alzheimer’s. The responses were interesting , some knew quite a bit, some had misconceptions, and for others, it was a completely new conversation.

Awareness starts with knowing what people already understand, and sometimes the best way to find out is simply to ask. Before watching this video, how much did you know about dementia and Alzheimer’s? And did any of their answers surprise you?

To me, there were no wrong answers. I made everyone comfortable enough to share their honest thoughts and re-echoed their responses, whether right or wrong. I wasn't there to make anyone feel uncomfortable or ashamed for not knowing about the topic. My goal was to create awareness, and I stayed focused on that.

Thank you so much for following my research journey up to this point. Stay tuned for Episode 2!

But before we post Episode 2, we'll be playing a fun game and I want as many people as possible to be involved.

We had the honour of interviewing Prof. Victor Olisah, Professor of Neuropsychiatry at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Sit back, grab a drink, and relax as he shares his expert insights on this important matter.

What do people really know about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease?

As part of our research, we took to the streets to engage with the public and assess their understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Dementia is more than just forgetfulness or a normal part of ageing. It is an umbrella term for conditions that affect memory, thinking, behaviour, and the ability to carry out everyday activities. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia.

Through this interview, we are not just gathering data for our research; we are also sparking vital conversations and raising awareness about a condition that deeply impacts individuals, families, and communities.

Now, we would love to hear from you: What did you know about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease before watching this interview? Share your thoughts in the comments.

In our next video, we will be taking you to the streets of Kaduna to hear what people have to say about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. And yes, it will be exciting — there will be a prize to be won. Stay tuned for more details.

Please don’t forget to like, share, and comment.

Grab a cuppa 🍵 as I tell you what happened on my last girls trip 🤭

Let's be honest, most girls trips end with beef because of POOR COMMUNICATION. 🙄

No transparency, silent grudges, and bad energy travelling in the same suitcase.

My friend and I have been doing this for YEARS and we have never let a trip ruin our friendship. Want to know our secret?

We TALK. About EVERYTHING.

Here is my mini lecture for your next girls trip:

1. Talk About Money Before You Travel: Budget, how you split bills, who pays for what. No assumptions. Money is the number 1 fight starter.

2. Set Expectations Early: Are we going to party or to rest? Who gets which room or bed? Talk about it now, not when you are already angry.

3. Don't Gossip, Communicate: If something bothers you, say it immediately. Don't keep malice and start forming silent groups. That 1-minute awkward talk will save a 10-year friendship.

4. Leave Bad Energy At Home: No competition, no jealousy. We are there to create memories, not to compete. If you came with bad energy, stay at home.

This is how my friend and I have remained solid. No long grudges, no fake smiles. If we offend each other, we sort it in 5 minutes and go back to making TikToks. 😂

Do this and your next girls trip will actually be FUN.

Who is that one friend you can travel with without fighting? Tag her! 👇 #fypage #ɢɪʀʟsᴛʀɪᴘ #fypシ゚viralシfypシ゚ #explorepage #albania by @_sai_gurl

I did a thing guys ☺️ yaaaayyyy 💃🏽🎉🎊

Okay, before I continue, let me re-introduce myself for those who don't know me.

My name is Sarah, born and raised in Kaduna.

So in April, I decided to pull the biggest surprise of the year - I landed in Nigeria without telling ANYONE! The look on my family's faces? Priceless. They thought I just came back to chop jollof and enjoy family time.

Little did they know I had a secret mission. 👀

For weeks, I was on the streets, in homes, in markets - talking to people, listening to stories, and doing a little awareness walk on DEMENTIA. Yes, dementia.

Many of you have seen the trailer for my documentary and have been in my DM asking "Sarah, what's going on?"

My people, nothing to worry about - I bring GOOD TIDINGS!

But it goes beyond just a video. This is my little way of giving back to my community. We are bringing HOPE back to Africa.

This project is about breaking the silence, removing the shame, and letting our people know that forgetfulness in old age is not always "normal" and it's definitely not witchcraft. There is help. There is hope. And no family should go through it alone.

The full video will be out soon, but for now, when you see the trailer, please help me RESHARE, LIKE and COMMENT. You never know, your one share might give a family hope.

Thank you for your love and support always! Let's Know Dementia, Africa! ❤️
