What does success mean to you?

A lot of people say they’re chasing a goal without really understanding their true motivation. So what’s your why?

When you ask yourself what truly matters to me? the goal becomes clearer, and you start to understand what success actually means to you.

Don’t compare yourself to others or what you see online. Go get it. ⚽️ by @_samhenneberg

I can’t express how excited I am to be back in a routine.

What you see online is the highlight reel. The 1% that makes it look easy. You don’t see the other 99%.

The last couple of months I’ve been missing my girlfriend, my family, my friends. Going to bed at different times, waking up at different times, jet lag, eating different foods, all whilst managing the start of the season across three football clubs in three countries and running two showcases in a brand new market 8,000 miles away. It’s a lot of responsibility and something I take great pride in.

I’m not saying this so anyone feels sorry for me. I’m very grateful. I have the best group of people around me and I couldn’t ask for a better support system. But sometimes it still feels like I’m not doing enough. Not showing enough love to the right people, staff, players & family. Like I could always be doing more.

You’re probably reading this thinking, so what’s the point? What do you actually get out of it?

A player telling you that you changed his life. Watching someone reach a level they didn’t think they were capable of. A kid messaging you saying he believes in himself more now and trusts himself to get through difficult moments. That’s it. That’s what makes all of it worth it.

Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are in your life, don’t compare yourself to anyone else. It’s you vs you. We all have the same 24 hours and the same 7 days a week.

Traveling around the world for the last 2 months has given me real perspective.

What would the old man give to have the 30 year old’s health, and the 18 year old give to drive the 30 year old’s car, or the 14 year old give to have the 18 year old’s job and not have to do homework?

When do you finally arrive at your goal and feel accomplished?

How are you spending your time? What fulfills you?

Don’t believe everything you see online. And make sure you tell the people close to you that you care and you love them.

Back to Miami now and ready to lock in for the season. More signings, more commitments, more pathways, more players taking the next step, more trophies & most importantly more relentless & successful human beings.

We started a football club in Dubai. These are the lessons I learnt from the first week of preseason.

When you say you’re hungry, you don’t really understand what true hunger is until you’ve traveled and seen how hard people work in other parts of the world. Hunger is the biggest skill in life. You can’t teach it.

The ones that pretend to work hard will keep telling you how hard they work. The most successful players won’t talk. They’ll just show you on and off the pitch.

Show up fit. It’s preseason. Coming in ready tells everyone you’re serious before you even touch a ball.

Respect is the most important thing in football, but you can’t demand it. It has to be earned.

Just because someone posts pictures in a big city on Instagram doesn’t mean that’s actually how their life is. What you see online is 1% of real life and 99% of the wins.

Taking no risks is the biggest risk. People are worried about things that are never going to happen. They’re scared about what people might think or say about them. Are you making decisions to better yourself or just to fit in?

Community and togetherness is the most important thing in football. People are the most important thing. Make sure everyone feels loved.

The more you travel, the more people you speak to from different parts of the world, the easier it is to make decisions, communicate, and understand people’s cultures and communities.

The most important people in any new environment are the leaders and how they set the culture. When the staff has clarity, trust, and belief in the mission, the players feel it.

When you have staff, you have to trust them. But you also have to give them every resource and every bit of education not to fail. Set them up for success. Most of the time, people make mistakes because they didn't know what was expected or the standard. Not because they wanted to make the mistake.

There is so much competition in football and so many people hungrier than you.

Grateful to do what I love, grateful to travel the world and make a real impact. Excited for the rest of the season. Yalla 👊 taken in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by @_samhenneberg

123 players. One summer in Salamanca. Here’s what we learned 🇪🇸

You can give a player the roadmap, the coaching, and the exact steps. That doesn’t mean they’ll follow it. At 16 or 17, some players just get it. Some don’t.

The ones who separate themselves? It’s rarely about talent. It’s about what they do with their free time. Some play video games. Some are on their phones all day. Others stretch, lift, and read. Ages 16–18 are the biggest window to get a head start, and in the right environment, players learn incredibly fast.

But there’s a culture creeping in that worries us. Headphones in on the walk to training instead of talking to teammates. More time on the phone than in real conversation. The nonchalant thing isn’t cool. Show you care. Be a real person.

Here’s something nobody talks about enough that coaches have favorites. You become one by smiling, making jokes, and then being dead serious when it’s time to work. It’s not complicated.

And if you’re a young player in North America saying you want to play in college “to play soccer” that’s not enough. What do you want to study? What are you building? Don’t follow the normal pathway without being intentional about it.

To the parents, you’re probably the most important part of all of this. You’re the support system and the people who believe in your kid before anyone else does.

To the players, the talent in the room is always closer than you think. Attitude is what separates it.

Time for a big season with our guys 👊

The content you consume shapes the person you become.

Here are 7 things I watched, read, and listened to last month that shifted how I think about my to do list, people, communication, sleep, and winning.
