what a whirlwind showing Girl Winter in New York City last week 🌀

I’ve held a lot of resentment towards this city because it took my dad from me. but it felt like such a full circle moment to share my film tour and VIVID in a building I know my mom and dad had spent time in, just a few blocks from where he lost his life.

his best friends were in the crowd and we spent the evening sharing stories, photos and many tears and hugs. I did a lot more crying than planned, but I mean that in a good way. is it a rite of passage to cry on the subway??

my life in New York and New Jersey has always felt like this separate piece that all my favorite people only hear stories of. my best friend from middle school, @jillian_queri, got to be there to see girl winter, say hi to my dad and spend time with his best friends and that was the most special part of it all.

skiing is the center of my universe and where I feel most connected to my dad, because it also was the center of his universe. and I felt my dad all around me last week. he watched the films, he got to meet my best friends and he showed me signs only I would recognize. my heart feels cracked wide open by new york and makes me yearn for more 💛💛 taken in New York City by @_schlag_

it’s premiere week here at @moonrise.create hq for year three of Girl Winter Film Tour!! can I get a let’s go baby??

we’ve put in a lot of work to make these premieres feel special and different (to almost 50 locations btw) and it is SO worth it for all the women’s stories we get to share with this rad and growing community. we’re trying our best to make this industry more equitable - brick by brick 🧱

we’re in salt lake alllll week with our world premiere 9/24 at @depotslc! if you want a more intimate setting to chat with us and learn about women in outdoor media, we’ve got a panel on 9/23 with @evo @stio and @karitraa ❣️

my grief and my joy now exist in the same room.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years without my dad. these larger anniversaries used to feel like a death sentence. I would stay in my room and cry for hours, barely eat and avoid - help, life and talking about it. therapy has made it so I don’t have to exist in devastation today.

I miss my dad more than words could begin to describe, but I know he is all around me in the love I feel. he’s in the red tailed hawks circling overhead as I’m about to start an adventure, he’s there when I’m ripping down the mountain with all my best friends and he’s there for the slow moments too. there’s a lot more gratitude in his loss than resentment.

my grief sometimes doesn’t feel like mine. 9/11 is used as the marker to set apart generations and somehow pops up in any movie or book. wars were started because of my dad dying and our current events uncover feelings I didn’t realize I had buried. these are all things I’m still trying to fully understand.

yet, the more I dive in in therapy, the more I know myself and my grief. I have spent countless hours working through my ptsd from this day and while the exhausting work has been done, I’m doing a lot of unlearning and acceptance these days.

I used to think I would arrive at a time where my grief would magically disappear. as a child navigating my dad dying, I surely thought by age 30 I would have it all figured out. my grief has evolved from 25 years ago - I can predict its moves a little bit better, but the tears still come and will remain for the rest of my life. there are silver linings to it and there is something to be said about leaving such a large space in my heart to feel this much.

4 pass loop in a day !! 🌀🌀

this spring I kept saying I was gonna run this by the end of the summer. part of me felt like I was saying it as a joke and the other part wanted to prove to myself I can do this big of a goal.

after 2 acl surgeries and a broken foot that didn’t heal properly I honestly wasn’t sure my body was gonna be able to handle all the mileage this summer. turns out when you lift weights and follow a proper run progression your body reacts real well! shoutout @flowzone.jess for getting me back from my latest knee surgery and giving me a program that got me to run this far!

I got to share this with two of my besties that are running queens!! it was so special to try so hard with @wavessss___ and @austinrcaron 🤝 is trail running a team sport? I kinda think so ❣️

this was my first marathon which was lowkey a psycho move but how cool is trying hard with friends with a body that is capable to do it!!
