Andria Rose is bringing her dreamy blend of Chicano-indie, psychedelia and jazz-funk to a new chapter with her latest EP, “Painted Pout,” out tomorrow, Oct. 2. The South Texas native began writing songs and playing guitar at age 11 and has since opened for artists including The Marías and Kali Uchis.

Now based in Los Angeles, Andria Rose describes her music as “Latin velvet” — lush, soft, sultry and dreamy, with English and Spanish woven throughout. To celebrate the EP, she’ll host an immersive pop-up at Leiminspace in Chinatown on Oct. 9 with a DJ, custom matcha drinks, exclusive merch and gifts.

Alice Bag has spent nearly 50 years making music and creating space for women, Chicanas and people who have often been excluded from rock.

Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Alice became the frontwoman of The Bags in 1977, emerging from LA’s first punk wave. She became a teacher, author and archivist, maintaining the “Women in L.A. Punk” digital archive since 2004 and documenting her experiences in her memoir, “Violence Girl.”

On Sept. 9 at the Wiltern, the Alice Bag Band played its final show, opening for Bikini Kill. While that chapter is closing, Alice has several projects ahead, including a new record with Juanita & Juan and a punk operetta with Kathleen Hanna, Adele Bertei and Andrew Springer.

For Alice, community remains central as the resistance continues. “Shows are places where you can refuel and reaffirm your sense of community,” she says. “It’s gonna be a long fight, so we got to hang together and take time to renew our strength.”

What music defines Los Angeles? For many Angelenos, the answer starts in East LA with Los Lobos.

The new documentary “Los Lobos: Native Sons” traces the band’s 50-year journey from Garfield High School backyard parties and quinceañeras to Grammys, global tours, and the White House.

More than just “the band that did ‘La Bamba,’” Los Lobos became a symbol of working-class Chicano identity, blending Mexican folk traditions with American rock while refusing to fit into one box. For Los Lobos, bilingual, bicultural identity was not a limitation — it was a creative strength.

Premiering in LA at the Egyptian Theatre to a sold out crowd, the film explores the band’s role in the Chicano movement, their impact on rock, and how their music bridged cultures across generations.

“It’s the soundtrack of East LA,” says Enrique Bunbury in the documentary. “It somehow represents the immigrant who adapts to a new life but maintains a connection with his own tradition. That’s the DNA of Los Lobos.”

With the trauma, heartbreak and awkwardness of high school, who would ever go back after graduation? Mitski is who — inviting nearly ten thousand fans to a sold-out five-day residency at Hollywood High School.

Held as part of the world tour for her eighth studio album “Nothing’s About to Happen to Me” the setting amplified themes of identity, isolation, inner conflict and love, especially for the many teens and young adults in attendance.

The stage included a tattered silkscreen backdrop, vintage furniture, disco balls, and visuals ranging from old Hollywood films to ocean waves. Fans also explored the Tansy House, a walk-through space with letters, phones, and objects inviting interaction.

Hollywood High, known for its arts and theater programs, awarded fifty students tickets through a raffle, while rental fees for the auditorium helped pay for the 2026 graduating class’s caps and gowns.

Gardena’s own Inner Wave just pulled off an ambitious creative swing: a feature film, a new album, and a photo lyric book, all released as part of the same project.

The band premiered their movie "See You When I Get Back" at Gardena Cinema last Friday, March 6, where the hometown crowd packed all 800 seats with friends, fans, and fellow musicians celebrating the moment.

For a group that started as a sixth-grade skate crew at Peary Middle School, the milestone marks more than two decades of evolution. Known for blending indie rock with groovy synth melodies, Inner Wave has gone from local DIY beginnings to opening for major acts like, playing major festivals and headlining global tours.

The film leans into humor, campy horror, mystery and satire, following a fictional up-and-coming band heading out on tour for the first time — a story that mirrors many of the band’s own experiences navigating the music industry.

Rooted deeply in LA culture and Latino identity, Inner Wave says the project proves one thing: you don’t need a massive budget or special powers, just creativity, community, and the drive to make something real.
