Some tries feel awkward.
Some, you’ll cringe at later.

[RE]RUN has felt awkward at times.
The physio hat fits just fine.
But the other ten don’t.

Still, it moves you forward (trying does).
In running.
In building something.

Running taught me a lot.
Like how to keep going:
One rep.
One uncomfortable step,
At a time.

I’m glad running taught me that -
Before life had to.

I’m not a designer.
Not a copywriter.
Not a practice manager.
Those are full-time jobs for a reason.

And I’m having more fun than I’ve ever had at work -
Trying. by @_shaipatel

“Tell us about a time you felt unsafe or excluded running.”

When we ran with @flow.state.rc and my friend @brit_degroot, we asked femme-identifying runners we know to anonymously answer one tell us one thing.

That one. Unsafe, excluded.

The responses hit harder than I expected. And these are only some. Some stories blurred together. I thought maybe Brit had written multiple - same street, same time of day, same fear.

Turns out she hadn’t.
They were just that common, in that much detail.

I struggled to look at everyone while reading them. Worried I’d meet the eyes of someone who wrote one. Unsure what I’d do with that weight.

We shared those stories then.
We’re sharing them again now - on Global Running Day.

Because we love running.
And we believe it should feel good, safe, and open to everyone.

I want the experience to feel like the opposite of exclusion - the thing that’s given so much to me.
I’m still learning what that means.
And, often getting it wrong.
But I’m here, listening. And we’re moving forward.
