SLUM PARTY 26: SOLO DANCE EVENING

Every body carries a story. Every movement is a question. Every dancer is a voice.

This September, Slum Party 26 presents Solo Dance Evening, an intimate gathering of movement, expression and embodied thought, exploring the possibilities of the individual within the collective.

Under this year’s theme, Cathedral Thinking, dancers take the stage to build worlds through their bodies, challenge familiar ways of seeing and invite us to imagine what can be created when movement becomes a language of inquiry.

Join us for an evening of dance, reflection and shared experience at Afrocan Studio, Bariga.

Date: September 26th, 2026
Time: 5:00 PM
Venue: Afrocan Studio, 38 Asani Street, Bariga, Lagos.

Come witness the body think, speak and create.

SLUM PARTY 2026 - CATHEDRAL THINKING.

14th - 26th September 2026.

🪇

We are stuck in a timeline where everyone and everything is trying to move fast, out here we choose to build slowly, intentionally, and collectively like cathedrals once were. Stone by stone. Spirit by spirit. Community by community.

Slum Party 2026 is a call to dream beyond the present. To embrace a culture that outlives trends. To plant seeds whose shade we may never sit under but we would have attempted to do a good thing for the world.

This year we are calling dancers, thinkers, builders, rebels, children, elders, and believers of possibility into one vibration.

SLUM PARTY 2026 - CATHEDRAL THINKING.

A celebration of long vision, radical imagination, grassroots power, and the courage to build for the future of African creativity.

Mark the dates and join us in Nigeria for a Dance of the Future!

More info soon!

Depth in our thoughts. Roots in our movements. Spirit in our gathering. Awakening in our consciousness.

Our history carries both wounds and wisdom. Beyond the divisions imposed on Black people, there is a memory that lives in our bodies, our rhythms, and our ways of coming together.

Maybe the awakening begins when we look beyond what separates us and remember what connects us.

seeing beyond the present, reaching into our roots, and imagining a future our ancestors were never allowed to see. ❤️🔥

Empires rise.
Empires fall.
Borders are drawn.
Names are changed.
Yet beneath the costumes,
human beings continue searching for the same things:
food, shelter, love, dignity, meaning.

There are hands that build
and hands that take.

There are people who accumulate the world
while others struggle to hold on to a piece of it.
There are those who were conquered,
those who conquered,
and generations still carrying the echoes
of what happened before they were born.

And then there are the watchers.

The ones who step outside the noise for a moment,
who look at humanity from afar
and see that every person is moving
inside a dance much larger than themselves.
not simply seeing with the eyes,
but seeing with awareness.

Seeing the beautiful and the terrible.
The laughter beside the suffering.
The abundance beside the emptiness.
The hand reaching upward
and the hand pulling another down.

From that distance,
we begin to see something strange
Every step touches another step.
Every wound leaves an echo.
Every act of kindness changes the rhythm somewhere.
