🌸Selections From: Tapestries is a Dance-Theater piece guided by the curious narrative of The Unicorn Tapestries or Hunt of the Unicorn (1495-1505) housed at The Met Cloisters, reimagined through the queering out of Ukrainian folklore and tales. This performance consists of six short vignettes developed through a rigorous and quirky movement vocabulary abstracted from Ukrainian folk dance, ballet, American modern dance, and contemporary dance. It serves as an embodied archive, an ever-evolving Сморгасбург of the subjective history of queer Ukrainian culture.

📍Judson Church, entrance at 243 Thompson Street, NYC 10012

“I’m working on a piece called ‘Tapestries.’ [It’s] centered around the narrative of the ‘Hunt of the Unicorn’ tapestries and I’ve reimagined each tapestry through different types of Ukrainian folklore, queered out.” —Suzzanne Ponomarenko, Spring 2025 Residency Artist
