It's happening!!!!!!!!!!! 😁

A play I've been working on has been accepted by a fantastic publisher (I'm not telling yet!)

Many thanks to my dear friends and writers I deeply admire, Dr Ola Ifatimehin and Dr. Soji Cole, who read the rough draft and offered their input.

This play is so close to my heart. I wrote it in one week. I didn't sleep at all. All night, for a whole week, I was up writing. All day, too, until it was finally out. It felt like it was eating at my heart and needed to come out for me to breathe. Of course it took many more months to refine and edit.

I'm so happy it has found a home! ❤️ by @_starzahra

This song captures how I feel when I work in my studio. Most people don't know I love dancing. I think if I wasn't a writer and artist, I'd most likely have been a dancer. I just exist in my own world without applause. Liberating. by @_starzahra

In 2024, I did a thing. Canadian professor Joanna Cockerline and a group of amazing female writers in Kenya, most of whom are my friends, wrote an anthology and wanted one of my designs as the cover. I can't say enough how incredible this project is for me, and what a joy it is to keep receiving all the gifts textiles bring me. I also have a poem in the anthology. These are photos from the launch at the Alliance Française, Nairobi. by @_starzahra

Poetry is a hard and lonely business. I've done this for over a decade, and I am honoured to be friends with people who have done it for far longer. (Let's say I am the youngster who eats with kings) But yeah. Every four years we remember poets in this country and shout and give opinions.

This year's race was a tough one, as I told someone yesterday. Wonderful writers and strong collections. Now that it is all over, read poets. Buy them. Attend readings and write reviews without needing to do it at controversial times.

Congratulations to Prof Ogaga, whom I met last year and fell in love with and who shared the same curiosity about me and my writings being from my birth state, Delta. It's a pleasure to have read this collection before the public and to have contributed to it. To Tares, you are an amazing writer with soul, and I hope you keep writing and showing up for the community. I think you are far more international than you'll ever be here at home. If Prof Ogaga represents anything we should copy, it is consistency. I don't know Mr James Eze very well, but well done, sir. You ran well.

So, the countdown starts again 🙂 by @_starzahra
