A little over 12 months ago, I was sat in an office awaiting the inevitable verdict for standing my ground, enforcing the standards to which I worked, and carrying myself to the beliefs of what it is to be a good man and defiantly saying no to the people who were the antithesis of these. After hearing the testaments of the craven and the verdict delivered by a lickspittle, i laughed my arse off.

The judgment, the opinions of these, non-entities, was that of the sheep to a wolf. I had done what I needed to do, as I needed to it. And come what may, I can hold myself to this.

Little did I know, sat there ... that what would follow was a year of what felt like torment and punishment. I could scarcely get an interview and in those that I did, the tricky subject of why I was out of work weighed heavy. The cheers and back slapping had died away and I was left wondering if I had done the correct thing, should I have just rolled over and said nothing at all... played the game.

But I am lucky, it transpires that the qualities I adhere to have found me favour with good souls, people that told me not to stop, that carried me when I stumbled and who, when asked ... raised their hands and offered to vouch for me when the time was needed.

And it is for them I am thankful as ... i have finally secured a job that has matched my ambition and standards. We have turned the ship around.

The best bit of living in Lancashire ... not the people, right bunch of misers us, but we have heart ... its the 5 minutes from countryside walking. I remember as a pup, summer days spent in woods, country parks, fields and brooks. Walking and talking for hours on end, returning home for a picky bits tea and then out playing again until the sun eventually faded.

Back in 1992 I was at the old Wembley watching Blackburn vs Leicester in the play off final to get into the newly formed Premier League. A day that, even at such a young age, I have never forgotten. The game itself, couldn't tell you what happened, but the atmosphere, the joy, the singing the absolute manic trip there and back (which is a story in of itself). Loved it.

Then roll on a few years (decades are a unit of years 🖕🤣) and I have always wanted to return with Blackburn ... but we are, unfortunately, bobbins. So when the opportunity to go down to Wembley with the team of my adoptive home arose, I gave up on waiting and nabbed tickets.

The journey there and back, with a modern and reliable car, was much easier and comfortable and I never lost a tooth. Then at the stadium the fans, the game, the teams were all fantastic. Despite going down early, Stockport made a game of it in the first half, ratcheting tension and aggro with a cheeky equalising goal celebration, but Bolton came out in the second half strongly ran riot. A comical own goal and a Premier League quality finish got the party started for the Bolton fans who could finally relax before a fourth goal set off the celebrations.

Congratulations to Bolton and the journey they have been on the last few years and to the fans that were fantastic. by @_stevie_s_

I adore cooking, especially when the house is dealing with the lurgy, or is stressed, worn out, over worked or just in need of a pick me up. And this dish always raises spirits. Full of flavour and goodness, you eat it until you burst. by @_stevie_s_

It's believed that love and hate are somehow ... spectrum opposites of each other. I don't think this is true, I think for most, the absence of one breathes life into the other.

Then for some, the two are an entwined entity, symbiotic, two strands wrapped together without beginning or end. One does not breath without the other. Love, hate, joy, anger ... as one grows, so does the other.

So, if you have ever heard the softness and ferocity of my voice, know that it comes from a deep rooted sense of caring.

If these are a stranger to you, or worse, my voice is silent. It isn't the opposite of not caring, it is a total absence of it. So kindly fuck off! by @_stevie_s_

Although I suffered for the sins of Saturday on Sunday, that day out was much needed. Watched the Rovers (which is always tragedomedy) and hit the old stomping ground of Darwen where i bumped into an old colleague and customers who said some kind words that have lifted me at a crucial time.

And to the bar manager at Cin Cin who, if she needs me to Guinea pig for new cocktails again, I'm all in! by @_stevie_s_

The key to cooking good food is taking your time. We have microwaves, air fryers and Uber Eats etc ... I use them myself, not judging ... all designed to get food to us quickly. But I can spend hours happily stood in the kitchen, music on and cooking a good meal. In a fast and hectic life, cooking can be a great way to slow down and balance out. by @_stevie_s_

Ancient proverb: You only realise your boots have a hole in them when your socks get drenched. Philosophers and thinkers have long debated the meaning of this but I think it just means ... if you were not aware of a hole in your boot, prior to walking, and suddenly you find your socks get wet, you are now most definitely aware of a hole in your boots. by @_stevie_s_
