Thinking like artists, building like engineers.
We craft meaningful moments beyond screens.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We’ve been busy behind the screens, and away from them. When we say tech, people picture code. And there’s plenty of that in what we do, but we build the hardware too, which means a lot of our work happens on-site: wiring things up, building, testing, getting our hands dirty.

We’ve been heads-down on something we can’t wait to share. More soon; here are a few BTS shots in the meantime.

aKM is not a client project. We contribute to it because we believe the instruments artists use shape the art that gets made.

Developed within @contact.laplanque , a non-profit in Lyon, aKM is an open-source spatial audio instrument: a custom speaker system, an audio processing server, and a visual interface. Most spatial audio tools were built for engineers and they assume you already know how speaker arrays work, how spatialization algorithms behave, how to route dozens of channels through complex signal chains. aKM started from a different premise: what if the artist could just think about where sound lives in a room?

Our involvement covers hardware design and fabrication, electronics, software architecture and development, system integration, spatial audio research, and production logistics. It is ongoing.

The system has grown to 36 satellite speakers, 4 low-range woofers, and 2 subwoofers. Everything: hardware plans, fabrication files, 3D models, software is published and freely available.

Most creative technology still happens on a screen. We mostly don’t.

We have a love for the magic that technology can bring, but somewhere along the way, we started losing patience with what it was actually being used for. Not the technology itself. What it kept doing to people. Pulling attention instead of holding it. Replacing presence instead of deepening it. We don’t think that’s a niche complaint anymore; most people feel some version of it.

So we build almost entirely in hardware: physical objects, installations, things you stand inside and feel. Because we want the technology to disappear and the story to stay.

The backgrounds shifting behind our logo here are some of the things that shape that work: science, architecture, nature, philosophy.

Most of what we build starts somewhere unglamorous: a material we love, a feeling we can’t shake. The engineering comes later, once we know what it’s actually in service of.

So “Thinking like artists, building like engineers” Is less a tagline for us, and more of a description of how we actually work. by @_stillasking

Earlier this year, we turned a former concert hall in Marseille into an immersive classroom for La Plateforme; a digital school built on the idea that technical education should be open to anyone.

The MotionLab is a 150m² room where floor and walls become one continuous canvas. Seven projectors, ten speakers, eight tracking sensors. Where the audience moves, the image and sound move with them.

We took the full technical scope system design, equipment selection, custom fabrication, installation, and the tracking software that powers the interactive layer. Two button presses to bring the whole room to life.

A while back, we were called in to help @hermes compress a 200m² escape game into 5 square meters. Fully automated, reproducible across boutiques worldwide, with all technology hidden inside the walls.

The Keys to La Maison is an in-store escape game where visitors get to actually touch and interact with the collection. A character created for the experience by @superbien.studio , the Philosopher of Hermès Maison, guides players through puzzles that require physically interacting with the objects, discovering Hermès’ craftsmanship through play rather than observation.

Our role was to build the invisible layer. Custom sensors, motorised locks, a Bluetooth proximity system hidden inside a cushion, a precision scale tracking puzzle progress. Everything lives inside the walls. From the visitor’s perspective, it’s a room full of magic.
Three kits built in Paris. Two years of remote maintenance across multiple continents.

Our new website is live!
Link in bio.

If you’ve been wondering what we actually do, it’s all there. And we’ll be sharing work here over the coming weeks too, so stick around either way! by @_stillasking

Last week we showed you the chaos of our office furnishing process, and this is what it turned into.

We've been working out of the office for a few weeks now and it's already hard to imagine doing this anywhere else.

Come by sometime!

The past few months have been dense. Projects, decisions, and somewhere in between: Cleaning, cables, and furniture that arrives in twelve pieces.

We’ve been building the place where the work happens. It’s nearly finished. And once it is, we’ll show you what we’ve actually been working on.

More soon. by @_stillasking
