It’s an unusually hot afternoon in early summer and I'm on my way to meet with a group of strangers to talk about death. There’s a heatwave in London, and the buildings seem to sag under an angry, bubbling sun. I look to the road’s asphalt, baked and black, and think that it’s the type of heat that boils the blood.

Curious what it’s like inside Hackney’s Death Cafe?

A few weeks ago I sat down with someone I didn’t understand.

The night I met Ciaran, he was on small, dimly lit stage performing poetry in a plastic dog mask.

I asked him the question on everyone’s minds that night:

Why?

Archives In Focus: The Lost & Found Archive @lostnfoundonline

Started by photographer Mia Patterson, The Lost & Found archive is an online collection of photographs, often found in cold garages, damp lofts, Ebay, antique stores, and other ordinary places.

“I think there’s a real feeling sometimes with photography that can feel a bit pretentious about what it can and can’t do and what it has to be in order to be good enough, and these pictures of peoples holidays and moments they felt were big enough for them to take a picture are just as important as anything else photography can do - it’s the connection it creates with our own memories” says Mia.

Archives In Focus is a series dedicated to spotlighting digital archives and the archivists who bring them to life. Each feature highlights collections that preserve fleeting moments in culture - whether skateboards, stickers, old film stock, or more. Together, they form digital treasure troves that keep small pieces of time alive and intertwined with human connection.

The Self Through Stuff

Shoes tell the story of how we move through the world. With every scuff & sign of wear they become more and more unique to the wearer - not only carrying the marks of our daily lives, but revealing where we’ve been and where we’re going.

What do your shoes say about you?

The Self Through Stuff is a new series exploring how the objects we collect, wear, and carry act as self portraits - small markers of our inner identity revealed through our outer layers.

Shoes photographed around London between 07-09/25

One night in an East London cinema, a man in a dog mask took the stage.
Take a Seat met Mr. Dog Face: poet, performer, and provocateur, to explore grief, cults, cinema, and why he puts on a rubber mask to speak truth.

Take a Seat is a journal and catalogue of people and their stories—rooted in the belief that while we’re all different, we have more in common than we think.

Meet NDOH, a graffiti artist from South London.

“There’s a community around it in London, it’s close knit, you’re always a tag or two away from another artist you know.”

He’s been tagging since he was a teenager, but worries that London is running out of real estate. “It’s not just about finding the right spot, there’s rules to it. You don’t tag mosques, or churches or schools. There’s an etiquette there you have to uphold.”

His words of advice: “Go with purpose, and stay out of trouble.” by @_takeaseat___

Like the Irish filmmaker Mark Cousins, whose childhood was shaped by The Troubles, Ciaran disappeared from the hardships of childhood to find a better reality in the cinema.

His passion for distorted realities later led him to the creation of his on-stage alter ego: Mr. Dog Face.
