Unfiltered and Unapologetic: Black Creatives at FAMU
by Jordan L. Jackson

For my final project, I wanted to highlight the Black creatives who bring life to the campus in different ways. I have noticed on campus how many outstanding students have a passion for creating and storytelling, which we often overlook with the other activities on campus. Taking the time to interview each person was my favorite part because reporting is always hard for me due to my shyness, so actually talking to people who are as passionate as I am about art and being creative in their own way was something that made me smile throughout the process.

Let me know any feedback in the comments ☺️

Before officially starting the summer semester, I want to take a moment to share my accomplishments from this past spring. I am beyond blessed for the opportunities I was given and the privilege of telling the stories of our local community.

As an intern with the Office of Communications, I published 6 articles ( one in the works) and produced a video supporting the feature on Joel Mitchell. Seeing that video shown during the Board of Trustees meeting to highlight student success was a major highlight for me. I also had the chance to assist and be featured in Amazon Prime and New Life Campus productions. Lastly, during my internship I was given the opportunity to represent the Office of Communications at President Marva Johnson J.D Donor Reception/Dinner.

Beyond my internship, I’ve loved writing for Tally Moves, sharing student life and Tallahassee events like the North Florida Fair through articles and Instagram Reels.

I also continued my work with Journey Magazine, covering two “FAMU’s Finest” articles, and published a practical piece titled “Tips to Finding Your First Apartment.”

While balancing writing for three different publications, I also created a documentary about FAMU baseball, “Roots in the Dirt.” It was tough, but I was honored to learn about the sport and highlight the team’s tradition and legacy.

I am so grateful for the growth this semester brought, and can’t wait to carry this momentum into my summer and fall semester! Graduation loading….🎓

Hey y’all! This past weekend, I went to Foodie Fest. A festival that took place at Governor Square mall, giving the Tallahassee community a variety of food, drinks, art, and much more. The three-day event was very popular, especially for the food options. My ear was in the streets, and the people were saying the food was mid and expensive. So, I had to see for myself…

Stay tuned for more!!
