Looking for a flexible, people-powered way to get involved in local organizing this election season? A local Democratic outreach team is hiring additional paid canvassers to help connect with voters across Ventura County.

💵 $18/hour
🗓️ Up to 30 hours per week
⏰ Flexible scheduling
🚶‍♀️ Get outside, walk neighborhoods, and talk with members of your community
🤝 Work alongside an energetic local organizing team

Canvassing is one of the most direct forms of grassroots organizing: real conversations, one doorstep at a time. Whether you already have campaign experience or are looking for a way to become more involved locally, this is a chance to get paid while participating in community outreach.

No need to already know someone on a campaign team… we’re looking for people who are dependable, comfortable talking with others, and willing to put in the walking time.

Our endorsed candidates were shining stars at Wednesday’s candidate forum led by the League of Women Voters. They both showed their considerable expertise, their ability to come up with thoughtful solutions, their compassion for ALL students, and their commitment to molding a school district that works for all of us! We are so excited to see what they can do on the Board!

🏠 100 YARD SIGNS!!!

Today I placed the 100th yard sign of this campaign, and I’m still kind of amazed by that number.

Every one of these signs represents a real person, a real family, or a real household that was willing to put my name right out on their front lawn for their neighbors, friends, and community to see.

That kind of visible support means more to me than I can properly put into words.

Yard signs are such a simple thing, but they’re also incredibly personal. Your home is your space. Choosing to put someone’s name in front of it is a very public gesture of confidence and encouragement, and I never take that lightly.

So to every person who has requested a sign, picked one up, let me place one in their yard, sent me a photo, or waved when I showed up with stakes in the trunk: Thank You. 🙏🏻

100 signs are 100 reminders that this campaign has been surrounded by people willing to show up openly and hope for better for their community.

I’m incredibly grateful.

And yes… there are more signs coming. ♥️

🗳️ Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios’ support means a great deal to me… not simply because she is our Mayor, but because of the work we’ve had the opportunity to do together in Ventura.

One of the things I’ve learned through years of community involvement is that some of the best things we accomplish happen when people in different roles are willing to pick up the phone, sit down together, share ideas, and keep the doors open to one another.

Jeannette and I have had those conversations. We’ve worked alongside one another on issues affecting our community, and I’ve seen firsthand how important those relationships are when you’re trying to turn an idea into something that actually improves people’s lives.

Her words about my campaign touched me deeply:

Over the next several years, Ventura Unified and the City of Ventura are going to face challenges that cannot be solved in separate rooms.

Housing affects whether educators and young families can afford to live here. Transportation and traffic matter when school boundaries change. Parks, recreation, public facilities, youth programs, neighborhood planning, economic development, and the future of public property all intersect with the lives of our students and families.

That is why the relationships between our city leaders and our school leaders matter so much to me.

I want those doors open.

I want conversations happening before problems become crises.

And I want our city and our schools thinking together about what Ventura needs to look like for the next generation growing up here.

I’m incredibly grateful to Mayor Sanchez-Palacios for her friendship, her partnership, and her confidence in me. 💗

💀🎃 Well, congratulations are in order!

After an entire campaign season waiting for his first endorsement, my challenger, Dr Matthew A Metcalf, finally got one:

The Ventura County Republican Party.

And since it’s spooky season, it seems like the perfect time to talk about the skeletons hiding in the GOP’s education closet. 👻

Across the country, Republican education policy has meant efforts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, a record wave of book bans and censorship in our public schools, attacks on LGBTQ+ students and other vulnerable young people, and an agenda fundamentally at odds with organized labor and the educators who make our schools work.

That isn’t the direction I want for Ventura Unified.

I believe public education is a public good. I believe teachers and classified employees deserve a voice at the table. I believe students deserve libraries where they can encounter ideas and stories beyond their own experiences. And I believe every child, including LGBTQ+ students, students of color, students with disabilities, immigrant students, and every kid who has ever wondered whether they belong, deserves to walk onto a VUSD campus knowing they are safe, valued, and welcome.

School board races may be nonpartisan on the ballot, but our values still matter. And the Ventura County Republican Party values Dr Matthew A Metcalf.

As for me? I’ll proudly keep standing with our educators, our working families, and every student who calls Ventura Unified home. Because those are my special interests. ✨

🗳️ East Ventura: Come meet your School Board candidates.

This Wednesday, October 7, I’ll join my fellow Ventura Unified School Board candidates for the League of Women Voters of Ventura County candidate forum, co-hosted by the Ventura Council PTA.

This is the only nonpartisan, unbiased candidate forum scheduled for our VUSD school board race this election, and I really hope the whole community will take advantage of this opportunity to meet the candidates, ask questions, and learn about your next trustee for the VUSD Board of Education.

Come hear directly from the people asking to represent our community for the next four years. More importantly…bring your questions! Audience members will be able to submit questions on index cards for consideration by the moderator, and each candidate will have the opportunity to respond.

Education decisions are deeply personal. They affect our students, teachers, staff, families, neighborhoods and the future of our public schools. Whatever matters most to you, this is an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates and make a more informed ballot decision.

💗🖤🤍 THE YARD SIGNS ARE HERE!

But before anything else, I have to thank Davina and the incredible team at @industryhorror in Downtown Ventura for bringing these to life.

Industry Horror is so much more than a local print shop. It’s a nonprofit social enterprise that provides job training and meaningful employment for autistic adults, creating opportunities to build skills, independence and community. I’m incredibly proud that we were able to keep this campaign investment local and work with a Ventura small business whose mission means so much to our community.

And they absolutely NAILED these signs.

After many iterations, I kept coming back to simplicity. I wanted something different from every other political yard sign out there: bold, clean, recognizable and authentically me. Pink, black and white. The cartoon schoolhouse. And, of course, an “AMBER” big enough that you can’t miss it driving down the street. 😉

They’re simple. They’re beautiful. They’re authentically Amber.

And you too can bring this simplicity and beauty to your very own front yard as well! 😉

Team Amber will be deploying signs throughout Ventura this weekend, just ahead of ballots beginning to arrive in mailboxes on Tuesday!

School closures affect far more than buildings. They affect students, families, educators, transportation, programs, neighborhood communities, and the schools that may ultimately receive the new students.
