POSTS STORIES REELS
Nearly 8 years ago, we started this journey with one child, one small personal reno, and a name we put out into the world with a quick logo. Our goal was simple - to do really good work, with care and integrity. Since then, we’ve grown - as a family, as a team, and alongside the incredible people we’ve been lucky enough to build for. This past year in particular has been a big one. We were proud to be named HIA’s Professional Small Builder of the Year, and we sold The Evergreen - a project that meant a lot to us (the second photo is from our kids’ last night in the home). Over that time, we’ve been quietly reflecting on where we’re going, what we’re building, and how we want to show up as a business. This week, we share a new look for The Building Company. A simple evolution - thoughtful, refined, and built to reflect who we are today and where we’re headed. We can’t wait to share it with you - and we’re so thankful to those who’ve been part of the journey so far. Matt & Nerida The Building Company by @_thebuildingcompany
The Rotherwood - a heritage home reimagined with a calm new layout, layered personality, and beautifully preserved original features. This one really reflects the power of a shared vision - a collaborative team, trusting clients, and a space shaped with care from beginning to end. We’ve worked with Georgie for many years, and we’re so thankful we finally convinced her to join Matt on camera to talk through how it all came together. Grateful to our clients, Georgie and her team, Sean Macgregor, Bec Ryan - and all the trades and our own team who helped bring this one to life. It’s a home that looks beautiful, but more importantly, feels beautiful - calm, considered, and to quote our clients, is “an absolute joy to live in”. This is the team that brings the brand to life every day - on site, in the details, and in the way we work. It was a great afternoon sharing the next chapter with them (and showing them their new kit). Same crew, new threads. 👌 #TheBuildingCompany #TeamTBC #HomesRedefined by @_thebuildingcompany
The Lane | Reimagining the Original Footprint One of the key considerations for this project was making the most of the home’s existing footprint. By reworking the original spaces, we were able to accommodate a generous rear extension while preserving a substantial backyard, with room for a swimming pool and generous alfresco. Originally a sunroom, this space has been completely rebuilt to create a new primary bedroom, retaining original character details such as the exposed rafters while improving the structure’s insulation and overall performance. Externally, stone cladding and traditional architectural detailing will tie the new structure back into the original facade. Inside, a light, warm and considered palette will carry through the bedroom, ensuite and walk-in robe - transforming what was once the dining room and sunroom into a private, retreat-like primary suite. The Carrara • A considered approach to materiality, where natural stone, warm timber tones and refined detailing come together to create spaces with their own distinct character. Interior Design by @gshepherdinterior Photography @timothykaye by @_thebuildingcompany
The Belle • Myrtlebank A new chapter for this character bungalow. Cathedral ceilings, steel-framed doors, a curved feature fireplace and a temperature-controlled wine room are just some of the details taking shape as we work alongside @piottobydesign and @tessia_id Interiors to transform this Myrtlebank home. The Elka • Stepney A project complex in its construction - a butterfly roofline, curved parapet walls, two floor levels - an entirely new addition sitting separately from the original home, yet seamless in its transition and now, beautifully resolved. A character villa at the front, with a Shou Sugi Ban-clad extension to the rear, designed by @baumgartclark and built by us, @_thebuildingcompany A very special one to now see complete. Looking forward to sharing more from this one soon! by @_thebuildingcompany

The Lane, taking shape. There have been a few changes along the way with this one… and our team’s can-do attitude has definitely been put to good use. As much as you can resolve on paper, sometimes it’s not until you’re standing in a space and seeing it come together at full scale that you spot an opportunity to make something even better. Of course, changes during a build can mean additional time and cost, so it’s always a matter of weighing up whether they’re genuinely worth it. In this case, a few of them definitely have been. Windows are going in, linings are next, and all those curves, proportions and little details we’ve been talking about for months are finally starting to take shape. Some of the most thoughtful design decisions are often the simplest. For this Norwood home, a single light well completely changes the way the home is experienced. From the moment you walk through the front door, it draws your eye through the home, fills the living spaces with natural light from both sides, and creates a remarkable sense of openness. Thoughtfully considered from the outset, and brought to life through collaboration. @_thebuildingcompany × @atelierbond_ by @_thebuildingcompany
