Hi! Still building over here! 😝 This was supposed to be our move in week, but alas…delays. So, I’m celebrating the little details. All but two lights are installed (because, ya know, delays), boys whole bath is done, master shower and Piper’s floor is done! Pantry lower cabinets, counters and floors are installed (bryce is building upper open shelves), stair railing went up (now we need stair treads, new banister and newel posts installed) and floors start this week and kitchen appliances come Friday (we ordered them at thanksgiving!!) slowly but surely we’re getting there. Building for yourself while building for others, in a pandemic, with unprecedented bumps along the way, has been the biggest lesson in patience. 5.5 years is no Joke! 😳 by @_thehousethatbuiltus

House update: We shipped the kids to San Diego for two weeks so we could get a big push done on the house! They had the time of their lives at “Camp Simis” going to the beach, skate park, regular park, more beach, sleep overs with cousins every day and slurpee dates on the reg. And WE got a ton of work done here. Counters are all installed, backsplash is up, faucets are in, boys’ bathroom is tiled, Piper’s is started, exterior lights are all in, pantry cabinets got installed, wood ceilings are in, ceiling fans and “some” interior lights went up, 167 outlets and their covers were put on and the front door got installed after taking 3 weeks being made by hand in our living room by Bryce’s incredible wood worker Zach Conroy. And the grand finale…the AC was installed! After two weeks of ten hour days in 110 degree heat, I will never take the luxury of our AC for granted again! 🥵

Appliances come this week, interior doors are delivered tomorrow, range hood is getting built and 2,000 other details to do! Fingers still crossed for a rough move in date before school starts. 🙏🏻 It’s been a LONG, hot summer. by @_thehousethatbuiltus

Well, what do we have here? Cabinets are getting installed! 💃🏼 Laundry room is done, bathrooms are set and kitchen is nearly done! Counters were measured and the backyard wall is done! Kinda softens the blow of the news that all our doors are now delayed another two months till end of July...kinda. So we keep chugging along and will move in this summer whether we have one shower and no floors or a shiny ribbon across the front door! #2moremonths 🏡 taken in Cave Creek, Arizona by @_thehousethatbuiltus

After 3 weeks and 47 samples, all 14 rooms have paint samples picked! 💃🏼 I wanted each room to be special with individual touches so I chose similar colors or light and dark variants of the same colors for each room. But the verdict is in, we’re going dark! Dark dining room and offices and dens. Lots of moody spaces as I move out of the light and airy farmhouse vibe we’ve been working with the last 8 years. Stucco is almost done, drywall is complete, roof is done, backyard wall almost done and tiles have been selected. Bryce installed a temp front door as we wait on interior doors to arrive. The countdown is on! We’re moving on the finishes, which means (finally) all the FUN stuff! 🙌🏻 by @_thehousethatbuiltus

Even though it doesn’t look like it (because the stucco guys didn’t show up two weeks in a row, ahem), we’ve been busy! It’s all hands on deck to get these walls closed up and the house done before that heat kicks in! Got our shower valves FINALLY, bathroom tile and counters picked out, exterior trim painted, interior color samples made and picked our outdoor sconces. I can say from experience, it’s way more fun picking out these finishes than placing outlets and a/c vents. #2moremonths by @_thehousethatbuiltus

It’s stucco day! After months of behind the scenes (or in the walls progress, rather), we have some big progress! Stucco started today! That means our exterior paint colors and window trims will be selected and applied in the next 1-2 weeks. Next up is roofing and then complete that interior! We’re so close to drywall I can taste it! Just waiting on a few loose ends before we can close those walls, then it’s go time! Fingers crossed for speedy progress from here out. 💃🏼🤞🏻 by @_thehousethatbuiltus

Look how much has changed!🥴 Not much if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Once again, we are delayed. The windows are again having an issue and now we’re on hold until we get the missing pieces in January. But in the waiting and the disappointment of the continuous delays there have been some really great changes. Without closing the walls up so soon our light fixtures started to arrive and we were able to measure exact heights and see them in the space and make necessary measurement changes. We were able to add can lights and solar tubes where we didn’t have them on the plans originally and with all the waiting I was able to space plan the playroom and make it into a bunk room! Heck yes!! Plus HVAC is done and we were able to be really thoughtful with our vent placement to maximize cooling and discovered we have room to make a little secret hideout above the laundry room! We’re trying to find the silver linings and know that whether we’re done in 2 mos or 6 mos, we’ll be in this house for the long haul and this period of construction will be a blip on the radar, albeit a 5yr blip by the time we’re done. 😆But doing it right definitely takes time and we know it will be worth it! 🖤 #hometakestime by @_thehousethatbuiltus

Well stucco is underway and now we can picture what our house will look like when it’s painted!! HVAC got installed this week, electric got delayed, Bryce found a cool spot to turn into a secret room for the kids off the playroom 🤫, and cabinet design is underway. Now I gotta pick an exterior paint color and window trim pieces like yesterday. Always under the gun and always delayed, such a crazy paradigm with building. 😆 by @_thehousethatbuiltus

Lots of behind the scenes action lately. The fireplaces are installed, electric finishes this week (did you know in custom building you have to literally pick where every outlet and light switch will go? It’s A LOT😳),APS trench got dug for power, and stucco prep started Saturday! We’re chugging along, 437 decisions at a time! taken in Cave Creek, Arizona by @_thehousethatbuiltus

First batch of windows are in! We ordered them back in June and they are finally here. And since I’ve been second guessing every step ever since, we were panicked we wouldn’t like them. But we LOVE them! So glad we went with black and so happy with all the grids patterns we chose. It was a learning process for sure and after 4 different meetings we made some sizing mistakes, but it’s done and they’re in and hopefully they’ll never have to be replaced! 🖤 by @_thehousethatbuiltus
