Walking across the stage meant more than just a degree. It’s the culmination of late nights, early mornings, two full-time jobs, and resilience through unimaginable loss. Losing my father last year was a pain I didn’t think I’d overcome, and it delayed my journey—but it didn’t stop it. Friday, I honored him, my family, and the person I’ve become. This isn’t just for me; it’s for the sacrifices, the struggles, and the strength it took to make it here. Here’s to perseverance, to growth, and to never giving up—no matter how heavy the burden. Two years ago, my life changed forever. My dad passed away unexpectedly, and even now, it doesn’t feel real. There are moments when I still expect my phone to ring, hearing his voice on the other end, ready to share a laugh or debate about football. Sundays were our thing. After the games, we’d always call each other—him, a diehard Steelers fan, and me, rooting for the Ravens. Our rivalries made for the best banter, but those calls were more than just football. They were our way of staying connected, sharing life, and making memories.

He was so much more than a sports fan. My dad loved the freedom of the open road. With his CDL, he traveled across the country, Florida being one of his favorite places to visit. He often told me how peaceful and alive he felt on those drives. I can still picture him, happy and free, soaking in the journey.

This year has been especially hard without him. I recently graduated with my Master’s degree, a moment he promised me he’d be there to see. I felt his absence deeply that day, and I know I’ll feel it at every milestone to come—when I start my PhD, walk down the aisle, and have children of my own. It’s heartbreaking to think he won’t be physically there to share in those moments. Sometimes, I feel robbed of the time we should have had together, and the anger and sadness feel overwhelming.

But in the quiet moments, I remind myself that he wouldn’t want me to live in sadness. He’d want me to chase my dreams, find joy, and keep moving forward. So that’s what I’m trying to do—to live a life that would make him proud, even on the days when the grief feels heavy.

Dad, I miss you more than words can ever express. Thank you for teaching me, loving me, and giving me memories that I’ll carry forever. I’ll keep your legacy alive in everything I do. Until we meet again, I’ll keep making you proud. ❤️‍🩹 by @_theimanishow
