715 South Madison St. Albany, GA 🏚️🌾Picture this: A neighborhood grocery/ convenience store, built in 1948 by a Black family to serve a thriving Black community in Albany, Georgia. It later passed into the hands of their daughter, Mrs. Irene George—an educator and community pillar—who, along with her son Mr. Melvin George, another educator, kept the legacy alive. Over time, this once-vibrant space was left behind, eventually reduced to a storage site.But not anymore.Just in time for National Black Business Month, my mother and I are proud to share that we’ve officially purchased this historic gem— 715, along with 713 and 717 South Madison Street. Another mother/son duo, at which the son is an educator — They say history repeats itself, right? This isn’t just real estate. This is heritage. This is legacy. This is a piece of Albany’s Black history—and now, a piece of our story too. 🖤Stay tuned for the transformation of this corner and the surrounding lots.
