“I did not ask to be born a monster. I asked to be loved.” This monologue—from Penny Dreadful—takes place after Victor Frankenstein denies The Creature a bride. What follows isn’t rage
It’s longing. A fantasy of companionship. Of being seen. Of being loved as he is — a monster. In preparing this scene, I grounded the performance in real neurological and physical conditions: traumatic brain injury, aphasia, neuropathy, executive dysfunction, and complex trauma. I let them dictate how he speaks, how thoughts struggle to become words, how emotion overwhelms language, how the body carries pain, and how abandonment fractures impulse and hope. I chose to perform this raw and stripped bare. No makeup. No prosthetics. No special effects. No cinematic distance. I wanted it to feel like The Creature was mic’d up — not performing at you, but speaking directly to you. Every pause mattered. Every broken phrase. Every restrained breath. Keeping in mind that The Creature is not deficient but self educated and handling the task of intelligence and internal struggle vexed with physical challenges Nothing to distract from the work. Nothing to hide behind. This isn’t a monster pleading for mercy. It’s a soul asking the most human question there is: “Am I worthy of love?” 🎭 đŸŽ„ Cinematography/Editing : @hbj_godsent & @godsent_media *I do not own the rights to the music used, free use* âž» #actor #actorslife #acting #monologue #pennydreadful #frankenstein #thecreature #characterstudy #actortraining #methodacting #dramaticacting #rawperformance #intimateperformance #screenacting #theatreactor #filmactor #selftape #actingreel #storytelling #performanceart #darkdrama #actingjourney #neurology #traumainformed #actorsofinstagram #voicesinthedark taken in Manhattan, New York by @_therealshaylucas

Frankenstein’s monster (The Creature) in Mary Shelley’s novel delivers powerful lines expressing his anguish, isolation, and rage, famously stating, “I am malicious because I am miserable,” and vowing, “If I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear!” He highlights his wretchedness and resentment towards his creator, Victor, lamenting his creation with phrases like, “Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust?” and commanding, “You are my creator, but I am your master;—obey!”. #VoicesInTheDark #ActorSeries #WorkingActor #ActingReels #Monologue #SceneStudy #ActorsOfInstagram #FilmActor #DarkDrama #RawEmotion #Storytelling #CreativeProcess #ReelsActor #ExplorePage taken in Manhattan, New York by @_therealshaylucas

In the first selection for “Voices in The Dark”, I chose a monologue from Penny Dreadful’s Creature. Frankenstein’s Creature isn’t a monster. He’s a being shaped by neurological trauma, physical impairment, and profound abandonment. I studied real conditions—TBI, aphasia, neuropathy, executive dysfunction, complex PTSD—and let them dictate how he speaks, moves, thinks, and reacts. I chose not to go full makeup. I chose not to go full cinematic. Stripped of spectacle, the focus is forced where it belongs: the performance, the breath, the fractures, the humanity. This isn’t about transformation. It’s about truth. đŸŽ„ Video dropping soon. #VoicesInTheDark #VoicesInTheDarkSeries #VITD #ActorSeries #ActingProject #ActorLife #ActorsOfInstagram #ActorsOnInstagram #WorkingActor #SeriousActor #ActingReels #ActorReels #Monologue #MonologueMonday #SceneStudy #ReelsActor #ReelsInstagram #ExplorePage #TrendingReels #ViralReels #voicesinthedark by @_therealshaylucas

VOICES IN THE DARK – Series Synopsis Voices in the Dark is an acting series that dives into the hidden corners of the human experience through powerful monologues and intimate scenes. Each episode showcases characters and moments I’ve always wanted to explore—stories driven by vulnerability, tension, and emotional truth. The series spans multiple genres, from dark drama and psychological thrillers to raw, quiet moments of reflection. It’s a space for risk-taking, honesty, and performance without limits. Audience participation is at the heart of the project. Fans and followers are invited to submit requests—characters, themes, or scenes—making Voices in the Dark an evolving collaboration between performer and viewer. This is where unseen stories are given a voice—and where darkness reveals the truth. #VoicesInTheDark #VoicesInTheDarkSeries #VITD #ActorSeries #ActingProject #ActorLife #ActorsOfInstagram #ActorsOnInstagram #WorkingActor #SeriousActor #ActingReels #ActorReels #Monologue #MonologueMonday #SceneStudy #FilmActor #TVActor #IndieFilm #IndieActor #FilmCommunity #CreativeProcess #Storytelling #ReelsActor #ReelsInstagram #ExplorePage #TrendingReels #viralreeĺs taken in Manhattan, New York by @_therealshaylucas

đŸŽ™ïž “I am so lonely
” My latest voice acting performance — Conquest’s monologue from Invincible (Season 2, Episode 8: “I’m Not Going to Get Out of This Alive”). This speech is more than just dialogue — it’s the confession of a warrior who’s conquered worlds but lost his humanity along the way. As a performer, I wanted to bring out the pain, pride, and emptiness behind every word. Voice acting isn’t about imitation — it’s about immersion. It’s stepping inside the darkness and making it feel alive.
