Human Hypocrisy in Numbers

Human hypocrisy is not abstract philosophy; it is visible in cold, undeniable numbers.
Every year, humans kill over 80 billion land animals for food. If fish and other sea life are counted, the number rises to trillions.
Compare this with our moral outrage over human violence. We mourn thousands, protest millions, but normalize billions of deaths simply because the victims are not human.
The scale alone exposes a contradiction we refuse to face.

The land-use data deepens this hypocrisy.
Nearly 40% of all habitable land on Earth is used for livestock grazing or growing feed for animals, yet this massive occupation provides less than one-fifth of global calories.

In contrast, plant-based foods require far less land and water. Still, forests are cleared, mountains are mined, and ecosystems are destroyed in the name of “necessity,” even when the numbers prove it is inefficiency driven by excess.

Climate data tells the same story.
Animal agriculture contributes around 14–18% of global greenhouse gas emissions, rivaling or exceeding emissions from the entire transport sector. Methane from livestock is many times more potent than carbon dioxide in the short term, accelerating warming.
Yet public climate discussions overwhelmingly focus on cars and factories, while food choices remain largely untouched.
This selective attention is not ignorance; it is convenience.

Deforestation adds another layer. Each year, millions of hectares of forest are lost, much of it to agricultural expansion. Forests that once regulated climate, protected biodiversity, and supported indigenous communities are sacrificed for short-term profit. We call it development, even as heatwaves, floods, and food insecurity rise.

The numbers are clear.
What is unclear is our willingness to accept them. If data exposes our role in suffering and destruction, denial becomes easier than change.
Human hypocrisy survives not because evidence is missing, but because facing it would demand restraint, responsibility, and a redefinition of progress itself. by @_theyogiclife

WELCOME TO A JOURNEY OF CONSCIOUS LIVING

In a world where everyone wants to be a millionaire or billionaire, be a punya-naire.

Message from Kanika
Dear Friend,

In today 's world, most people learn not for the joy of knowledge, but for what it can bring — success, money, validation. We live in a time where results matter more than growth, where people ask “How much do you earn?” instead of “Are you content?”. A time when happiness is something people chase — in things, in others, in achievements — instead of discovering it within.

Amidst this noise, I wish to create a space that feels different — a space open to everyone, regardless of background, status, or identity. A space where people can come simply to unlearn and to remember. A space to reconnect with the essence of life — to live peacefully, consciously, and holistically, as we once knew how.

My intention is to help people rediscover their inner strength and wisdom — to remind them that everything they seek already exists within. I want each person to walk away self-reliant, aware, and capable of being their own teacher — to truly be their own light and rise above suffering.

This is our first retreat, and it is being offered entirely on a donation basis. If we are able to run it successfully,

we plan to host one donation-based retreat every month. If you’d like to support us in any way, please feel free to reach out. Even sharing this with your friends, family, or colleagues is a beautiful way to help. I look forward to seeing you in Manali.
With love and light,

Kanika

WE TOOK EVERYTHING FROM THE MOUNTAINS — FOR A FEW MINUTES OF PLEASURE

We speak of development. We celebrate growth.
We applaud comfort.

But we rarely ask who paid the price.

The mountains did.The forests did.The oceans did.The animals did.
And now — we will.

THE FACTS WE CAN NO LONGER IGNORE

This is not opinion.
This is documented global data.

1. 73–75% of global wildlife populations are gone

According to the Living Planet Report (WWF):

Since 1970, the average population of wild animals has declined by ~73% globally

In some regions and ecosystems, the loss crosses 75%

This includes:

Forest animals,Mountain species,Marine life,Birds,Insects,Amphibians

This didn’t happen in centuries.
It happened in one human lifetime.

2. Marine life: more than half wiped out

56% of marine wildlife populations have declined

Sharks and rays: ~71% decline

Coral reefs: over 50% already destroyed, even though they support 25% of all marine species

All this — for:

Overfishing,Luxury seafood,Pollution,Coastal development,Pleasure and profit

The ocean fed us quietly.
We returned plastic, poison, and noise.

3. Mountains are being destroyed without mercy

Mountains are not empty land.
They are living ecosystems.

Yet:

Entire mountains are cut, blasted, mined, tunneled

Forests are cleared for:

Roads,Dams,Tourism,Resorts,“View points”,Short-term profit

Mountain species have nowhere to escape. When forests fall in plains, animals move.
When forests fall on mountains — they die.

4. Deforestation = slow mass extinction

Every year:

~10 million hectares of forest are destroyed (UN FAO)

That means:

Homes erased,Food chains broken,Soil dying,Rivers drying,Climate destabilizing

Forests are cut for:
Convenience,Paper,Packaging,Fast fashion,Meat production,Luxury lifestyles

A tree takes decades to grow.
We cut it in minutes.
5. Over 47,000 species are now threatened with extinction
According to the IUCN Red List:
~27% of assessed species are threatened
Thousands are critically endangered
Many will disappear without ever being known
Extinction today is not natural.
It is human-made.
FOR WHAT?

Have you ever wondered why ancient sages and seekers chose the mountains for their Tapasya? Or why certain places make you feel so peaceful, as if you have finally returned home?

Perhaps the answer lies in our relationship with nature.

Human beings are not separate from nature. We are nature, just like the mountains, rivers, trees, birds and every other living being on this planet. Yet, somewhere along the way, humans began to consider themselves superior to nature, as though they existed separately from it.

If you observe nature closely, you will notice something beautiful. Everything seems to exist in its own natural rhythm. Birds chirp, rivers flow, trees sway and dance in the wind. The clouds move, the rain falls, the seasons change, and life continues. Nature does not constantly struggle with its own existence.

But look at the human mind. It is often clouded with fear, attachment, greed, anger, aversion, cravings, expectations and endless desires. We are constantly thinking about the past, worrying about the future and struggling with the present. We have become so occupied with the noise within that we have forgotten how to simply be.

Perhaps peace is not something we need to acquire. Perhaps it is our natural state, buried beneath all the mental defilements, conditioning and accumulated distractions of the mind.

This might be why certain places, especially the mountains, forests and remote landscapes, make us feel so deeply connected. Away from the noise of society and the constant demands of everyday life, we begin to experience something we have always carried within us.

A sense of belonging. A sense of stillness. A feeling of coming home.

For centuries, the Himalayas and other sacred landscapes have held profound spiritual significance for meditators, rishis, sages, saints and seekers. They travelled to these places not merely to escape the world, but to withdraw from distractions, practise *Tapasya*, observe the mind and explore the deeper questions of existence.

Perhaps they understood something we are slowly forgetting: we do not have to conquer nature or rise above it to find peace. We have to recognise that we are already a part of it. by @_theyogiclife

So, What Are You Choosing: A Child at Heart or a Corrupted Adult? by @_theyogiclife

Monks perform the traditional Cham dance, a sacred ritual rooted in Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Each mask represents a different deity, guardian or spiritual figure, and every movement carries a story. by @_theyogiclife

Sitting in my tent at night, surrounded by the silence of the mountains, I began noticing something fascinating. The birds and animals around me wake up around 4 AM, filling the morning with their chirping and calls. As evening approaches, around 7 PM, their voices gradually fade, and nature settles into silence.

They seem to follow a rhythm that comes naturally to them. They wake with the light, rest with the darkness, and live in harmony with their surroundings.

And then I wonder about us, human beings. We have become so occupied with our thoughts, desires, fears, attachments and endless mental fluctuations — our vikaras and vrittis — that we have forgotten our own natural rhythm.

Even when the world around us is silent, our minds keep making noise. We struggle to sleep, struggle to find peace and constantly chase something outside ourselves.

Nature does not seem to struggle with being what it is. A bird does not need an alarm to remind it that morning has arrived. The forest does not need instructions to become quiet at night. Everything has its own rhythm, shaped by nature.

Of course, animals have their own struggles for survival, and their lives are not free from challenges. But observing their relationship with natural cycles makes me reflect on how much we have complicated our own existence.

Perhaps the birds and animals have something to remind us: peace is not something we have to create; it is our natural state when we stop disturbing it.

Somewhere along the way, we have become so disconnected from nature that we have forgotten how to simply live.

Perhaps the real question is not whether we understand nature, but whether we still remember how to live naturally.

Perhaps we don't need to learn how to control everything around us. Perhaps we need to learn how to stop disturbing everything within us. by @_theyogiclife

The Choice Between Truth and Maya

At some point in life, we all stand at a crossroads. Two paths lie before us, and we must choose which one to walk.

One path leads towards truth, integrity, and inner freedom. It asks you to listen to your conscience, stand for what is right, and remain honest even when dishonesty would make life easier. It asks you to choose what is right over what is convenient, compassion over selfishness, and truth over the approval of others. This path can be lonely. You may lose people, opportunities, recognition, and even the comfort of belonging. Because not everyone is willing to question their desires, challenge their beliefs, or walk against the crowd.

The other path offers everything the world teaches us to desire: money, success, fame, power, admiration, and the praise of people. It promises happiness through achievement and worth through recognition. But sometimes, to gain these things, we begin making small compromises. We silence our conscience, justify our wrongdoings, hide the truth, and become someone we once promised ourselves we would never be. Slowly, without even realising it, we begin trading our integrity for acceptance, our values for success, and our inner freedom for the approval of the world.

In the language of Indian philosophy, this is the choice between Satya (truth) and Maya (illusion) — between seeing life as it truly is and becoming lost in the illusions created by our desires, attachments, ego, and expectations.

Maya is not simply money, success, fame, or the material world itself. It is the illusion that these things can give us lasting fulfilment, define our worth, or make us superior to others. There is nothing inherently wrong with having wealth, achieving success, or being appreciated. The real question is: What are you willing to sacrifice to obtain them?

Can you remain truthful when a lie would bring you profit? Can you stand for what is right when the whole world stands against you? Can you choose kindness when cruelty would give you power? Can you walk away from applause rather than betray your conscience to receive it?

This planet belongs to all living beings, not just humans.

The wild animals have as much right to live freely as we do. Their home is not ours to destroy, their lives are not ours to control. We are guests on this planet, not its owners. Let us learn to coexist with compassion and respect for every life.

We may be the last generation to witness glaciers, flowing glacial rivers, and snow-covered mountains as we know them today. Our children and future generations may never experience the same world.

In the coming decades, we could face more severe droughts, devastating heatwaves, heatstroke-related deaths, and growing water scarcity. These are not distant possibilities we can afford to ignore. Climate change is already affecting our world, and the risks will grow if we continue on this path.

All this, driven in part by humanity’s endless desires — our greed, overconsumption, and the belief that we can keep taking from nature without consequences.

We keep chasing more, forgetting that we depend on the very things we are destroying.

What will we leave behind for the next generation — a living planet or a world struggling to survive?

Nature does not need us. We need nature.
