Naturally as one is changing ages, and decades their mind reminiscences.

to the 30s...
I remember turning 30 and I hated how I felt-about me. I spent too much time with the wrong energies in my space. The work to get to who I needed to be for myself was hard, long and angering... if you are honest about who you are, what you said and did and how you truly feel, therapy is burdensome, traumatic even... For 3 years I cried every day, not even an exaggeration.
I took a lot, a loootttttt of Ls, so much more than I have ever spoken about; a 'what if...' will not be my portion.

Into 2026...
I called this year 'my poem to myself', my rejection therapy year. I challenged myself to do the thing, ask the question, and not over think it. When I stopped wondering or worrying about the outcome and the perspectives of people who couldn't care any less, I felt lighter. This year was always meant to be personal...

Into 39...
I planned to have the best time... and did! My biggest goal - 'stop abandoning myself to make others comfortable.' The version of me that will bite the bullet to keep the peace and injure myself has exited. The negotiating with myself in situations that are harmful to me is pretty much over. I knew I was tired of the emotional weight, so I put it down.

Into the 40s...
I call this 'the last young decade'; we are about to have a ball! I have had practice, I will speak up for myself. I will do what feels right but what is also right. How it looks to you is your business, how it feels to me is what matters. I have rarely ever been delusional, or an unreliable narrator, [iykyk], we will be whimsical, factual and deep over in these parts.

I have never promised perfection. Never even said I will always get it right. Promised I will be present the best I can when you need me. Promised to ride hoodie low in the dead of night.

What if you only have 40 more summers, or 10 or 5, how do you want to spend it? Where? With who?

"Good friends aren't hard to find, great friendships take real work."

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't speak to at least one of these beauties, everyday we send memes! Sometimes they'll all send me the same one(s) and I respond to each of them according to who they are.

Collectively I have known them all my life, from birth @empress_divine1 to college @onlysam88 @she.is.me.rbj and beyond @amma418 @bonafide_mo.

They are different people, they add different things, we have similarities, but we also have polarized views.

We collectively talk about all the things- men, politics, education, betrayal, heartbreak, money, (un)realistic dreams, parents, children, baby daddies, (in)fertility, family dynamics, racism, culture, husbands, other people! No topic is off limits!

I fuss at them, they fuss right back. They have strong personalities, they aren't "yes" women.

Truths are shared, reminders are given, tears are shed. We give each other space but not too much. We hold each others secrets and privacy.

I will listen to them talk about the same thing over and over and over...I have to remind more than one of them to give folks the chance to love on you through life's challenges. I have definitely had to raise me voice, and you know I am not trying to do all that...they keep me checked and honest and they definitely call me out on whatever nonsense of the week I am into.

Hundreds of voice notes.
Hundreds of hrs of commentary.
Millions of minutes of laughs.

Friends are the family you choose. I hope they continue to choose me.

I have others but we are talking about these right now.
