In May I planted an edible garden in my porch planters vs the aesthetically pleasing mid century plantings of florals I’ve always done each year.. this included rose geranium to create tincture for health benefits, nasturtiums for edible florals and more medicinal tincture, chives, thyme & oregano for seasonings and drying, calendula for tea, and alyssum for more edible glory… I was pleased. By the middle of June, everything had rooted and was growing well from their 2 to 3 inch starter plants… I left to pick up my father from the desert and returned to find a fuzzy stalk growing amidst my plantings and found that it was a #volunteer sunflower!? When I tell you the amazement, words don’t describe it… My grandmother, Lina Lea was a volunteer to thousands of humans over 30 years of her life… I have never heard of such a thing and yet I was intrigued.. by the beginning of July something had come and snapped off the top of the stalk and left them hanging and dead… We were devastated what/who could’ve done this & why?! Within days the plant healed itself, turning one stock into two with two leaves, rubber banding themselves around the stalk like a hug and two even taller stronger stalks branched off the one… by the end of July, we had four heads growing strong atop each, but unseen to us until just days ago, when two huge sunflowers, like watching Eyes~ burst open unfurling into what we have come to believe as Lina Lea’s presence with us here on the porch… where we sit and laugh, reminisce and share new life moments together, Dad and I… Symbolically, even when you think it’s the end stay awake it’s just the beginning Lina Lea Grand mother is very present in ancestral healing as we float along this new bridge neither of us could have ever imagined for ourselves. #fatherdaughterlove❤️ #volunteering #sunflower #grandmotherslove by @_tuesdaymorn__

I’m documenting my days instead of judging them.

Food.
Movement.
Learning what actually works for my body.

No perfection.
Just consistency.
