I went back and forth about posting this. His loss doesn’t really feel like mine to feel, and actions like this can easily feel insincere, but in the end leading with the heart felt right.

This voice note was part of a label job application I submitted last year. The question was something along the lines of ‘why do you want to work in the industry?’

I guess I wanted to share it because it helps show just how far reaching Trevor’s impact has been. If his approach has resonated with me as strongly as it has, then how much further has it also hit. Maybe knowing that he’s had a hand in inspiring unknown people to aim for his level of passion and dedication, both as a manager, but also as an artist, would be something he’d have been pleased with.

This post is also my redemption for awkwardly trying to say this same thing to him in person at a Fontaines DJ set. I was wearing a kneecap shirt and he’d said ‘nice shirt’. He was wearing one that said ‘Make Israel Palestine Again’ and as I walked away I wished I’d thought to say ‘same’.

Anyway, I woke up this morning and read this sad news and realised I’d slept in a Fontaines t-shirt. To take nothing away from the bands own talent and drive, part of me wonders if a girl in Australia would be wearing their shirt if it wasn’t for him.
