Violence against Indo Caribbean women began in the motherland, intensified on the plantations during indenture, and still persists today. In 1871, Indo Caribbean men murdered women at 142 times the rate of their home regions in India. Today Guyana’s lifetime intimate partner violence sits near 55 percent. Trinidad and Suriname run 44 to 48 percent against a global average of 33 percent. And 65 percent of Indo Caribbean women in Queens have experienced or witnessed DV.

This is the environment our HPA axis grew up in. This is why healing has to name it.

Adverse Childhood Experiences double the risk of PCOS/ PMOS.

ACEs drive elevated fasting insulin and higher insulin resistance. Colonial and domestic violence dysregulate the HPA axis, and that dysregulation gets passed to descendants.

The research is finally catching up to what our bodies already knew.
