Today, students from Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) joined seniors at Yong-En Active Hub (YEAH!) for a fun and meaningful tie-dye tote bag workshop! 👜✨

What made this activity special? Instead of conventional synthetic dyes, we used plant-based dyes, exploring a more nature-friendly way to create beautiful colours and patterns. 🌱

Beyond making colourful tote bags, the workshop brought different generations together through creativity, laughter, and shared experiences.

At Wild Space, we believe that sustainability can start with simple, everyday activities. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity and a touch of nature to inspire greener choices. 💚

A big thank you to SUSS and Yong-En Active Hub for making this meaningful session possible!

As the world gathers for CBD COP17 to discuss the future of biodiversity, much of the conversation centres on policies, targets, funding and international commitments. These discussions matter. They help determine how countries protect ecosystems, restore habitats and safeguard the natural world for future generations.

But beyond the conference halls, there is another important question:

How do we help people care enough about nature to want to protect it?

At Wild Space, we believe one answer lies in storytelling.

🌏 Bringing conservation closer to people

Through Earth In Focus Singapore Nature Film Festival, we use film, photography and other artistic mediums to bring stories about our natural world to wider audiences.

A film can take us deep into a rainforest we may never have visited. A photograph can introduce us to a species we never knew existed. An artist's interpretation can help us see familiar landscapes differently. And a conversation sparked by a story can inspire someone to take their first step towards conservation.

These creative mediums do more than share information. They help us connect emotionally with nature, understand the people whose lives are intertwined with it, and see why protecting biodiversity matters.

Because conservation isn't just about the science of what we stand to lose. It is also about helping people understand what we stand to protect.

💚 At Wild Space, we believe conservation can be part of your conversation.

Through walks, conversations, travels and visual storytelling, we work to make nature more accessible, relatable and relevant to people from all walks of life.

The future of biodiversity isn't shaped only by what happens at COP17. It is also shaped by what we choose to notice, what we choose to share, and what we choose to do when we return to our everyday lives.

From 19–30 October 2026, world leaders, policymakers, scientists, Indigenous Peoples, local communities and conservation organisations are gathering in Yerevan, Armenia, for CBD COP17 - the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

But what exactly is it, and why should it matter to us?

When nature suffers, people do too.

It can be easy to feel that global environmental decisions are far removed from our daily lives. After all, most of us won't be sitting at the negotiating table in Armenia.

But policies do not exist in isolation. They are shaped by public priorities, community action, business practices and the choices we make as individuals.

These choices may seem small on their own, but together they help shape demand, influence business decisions, strengthen community action and create the conditions for stronger environmental policies.

At Wild Space, we believe conservation should be part of our everyday conversations. It is not something reserved for scientists, policymakers or people working in the environmental sector.

While the world discusses the future of nature at COP17, we all have a role to play in shaping it.

Because the policies made today will influence the world we inherit tomorrow. And the choices we make today can help determine what those policies become.

Walking through Taiwan's tea plantations, the difference was impossible to miss: organic farms were alive with birds and butterflies, while neighbouring non-organic plots were noticeably quieter. A good reminder that how we farm shapes who gets to share the land. 🦋

We'd also heard a Swinhoe's pheasant had been spotted just days before our arrival. Imagine the excitement as we trekked through the bamboo forest, hoping for a glimpse of this Taiwanese beauty. 🌿

Join us in 2027 as we head back to Taiwan to explore its biodiversity... but first, tea 🍵!

Our October opened with another wonderful group of Singapore friends from Wild Space! 🌱

During this Wild Taiwan trip, we visited three different tea farms together, travelling through the mountains and harvesting leaves between the tea rows. We immersed ourselves in the tea environment, drank plenty of tea, and listened to the stories of tea farmers pursuing sustainable farming.

Wild Space also brought us along to visit the leopard cat research and wildlife rescue team at Taiwan’s Biodiversity Research Institute (阿虎團隊), who shared the challenges facing Taiwan’s wildlife. We learned that leopard cats also use farmland as habitat, hunting rats there or crossing it to move through a fragmented landscape. When agricultural chemicals are used, they can travel up the food chain and reach the animals at the top, affecting their health and survival. This is just one example of how closely agriculture and wildlife are tied together, and why sustainable farming matters for conservation too.

Together, we learned to see tea through a new lens, as part of a landscape shared by farmers, forests, and the wildlife that depend on them.

A big thank you to Wayfinders Travel @wayfinders.travel for facilitating this trip and inviting us to share the tea farming side of the journey ✨ More photos are in our IG stories and highlights. We look forward to another tea journey with Wayfinders Travel & Wild Space @_wildspace ! by @_wildspace

Taiwan is often introduced through its night markets, neon skylines and endless cups of boba. But beyond the cities lies another Taiwan. One of towering mountains, misty forests, winding valleys and villages shaped by generations of living close to the land.

From mist-covered mountain plantations to small family-run tea houses, tea is more than a drink here. It is a connection to place, to the soil, the climate, the seasons and the people who have cultivated these landscapes for generations.

Walk through mountain forests.
Meet the people who call these landscapes home.
Sit down over a pot of tea.
Taste the landscape.
And discover the wild, quieter heart of Taiwan.

Because sometimes, the best way to experience a place is to simply slow down and let the landscape speak.

We were invited to observe Piodalan. It is a celebration that honours the Hindu temples for blessing the devotees with cosmic balance, and an opportunity to give thanks for peace and well-being. Prayers start the night before in the main temple and the different villages will congregate with offerings and processions including music and dance.

The festival continues till the next day where devotees must walk, journeying seaward bearing the weight of their Gods on their shoulders and the offerings on their heads.

What a sight it is to witness and be part of the festivities where traditions shape culture and practices. This celebration also took place on International Coastal Cleanup Day, and there was no better way than to celebrate it by the coast with the very communities that devote their lives to protecting it.
