Learning doesn’t stop in the classroom ⚓ Recently, YSTAP apprentices visited DeAngelo Marine Exhaust, where Keenan introduced the class to the process behind custom marine exhaust fabrication and the attention to detail that goes into every project. Visits like these help apprentices connect what they’re learning in the classroom with the companies, trades, and craftsmanship that keep South Florida’s marine industry moving. Thank you to Keenan and the entire DeAngelo Marine Exhaust team for welcoming our apprentices and sharing your time and knowledge. 288 classroom hours. 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. This is what commitment looks like ⚓️ Congratulations to the 5th Cohort of the Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program, a group that showed up, put in the work, and earned their place in the marine industry. This milestone was made even more meaningful as our Apprenticeship Coordinator, Prem Lee Barbosa, a graduate of Class 3, delivered a powerful and personal message, a full-circle moment that reflects what this program is built to do: create opportunity, growth, and leadership from within. This program continues to move forward through the dedication of leaders like Amy Winer and Vice President Lori Wheeler, alongside the support of our partners at Atlantic Technical College and the Florida Department of Education. To our participating employers, thank you for investing in the future workforce of this industry. To the families and friends, thank you for standing behind these apprentices every step of the way. A special thank you to DeWalt for supplying the tools, a perfect graduation gift to help these apprentices continue building their skills. The impact is lasting. The future is in good hands. #marineindustry #apprenticeship #skilledtrades #workforce #yachtcareers marinetrades careers floridaworkforce by @_ystap
Some of the world’s marine technology has a South Florida connection ⚓ For international manufacturers, having the right people on the ground in the U.S. makes a difference. During Cohort 6’s Trade Spotlight at Total Marine Solutions, YSTAP apprentices learned how American companies help international marine brands reach customers, provide service, and build a presence in the U.S. market. Thank you to the Total Marine Solutions team for welcoming our apprentices and sharing another side of the industry with them! WHAT THEY LEARNED / 003 ⚓ Are you the solution? Some tasks are going to be difficult. The lesson this week was about where you put your focus when they are. Rather than getting bogged down in how hard the task may be, focus on the work in front of you and what it takes to reach the goal. It’s a lesson that applies well beyond the classroom, and across every trade our apprentices are learning. The way you approach the work matters, too. 📍 Learn more at YSTAP.com or contact us at info@YSTAP.com. by @_ystap
Inside the paint department at Bradford Marine 🎨 YSTAP apprentices had the opportunity to spend time with the Bradford Marine team for a closer look at the painting process and the preparation, equipment, and safety practices involved in the work. Experiences like this bring apprentices directly into the environments where these trades are practiced, with participating employers sharing their knowledge along the way. Thank you to Bradford Marine for continuing to open its doors to YSTAP apprentices and support their training. 📍 YSTAP.com 📧 info@ystap.com by @_ystap
The moments between the lessons 📸 YSTAP apprentices and participating employers put a lot of work into this program, and somewhere along the way, Prem usually manages to capture the moments that make us smile. Between class, time spent with employers, and learning on the job, there are plenty of moments that don’t make it into the usual YSTAP recap. A thumbs-up. A laugh. A group photo. And sometimes, a quick snack on-the-go! These are the apprentices putting in the hours, learning alongside one another, and building their place in South Florida’s marine industry. Thanks for keeping the camera ready, Prem 📸 📍 YSTAP.com by @_ystap
Tuesday Takehome 🧰 Math isn’t separate from the trades, it’s part of the work. During carpentry, YSTAP apprentices are seeing how even basic working math can make a difference on the job. Knowing how to measure, calculate, and apply the numbers behind a task can help a technician work more confidently and become someone a team can rely on. That’s this week’s takeaway: even basic math can set you apart. YSTAP combines paid employment with technical instruction across the marine trades, giving apprentices the opportunity to learn skills they can carry with them throughout their careers.
