A year of painting, drawing, questioning, changing, and thinking. One of the things I struggled with most during studio time was knowing when to stop. When to leave a painting alone, when to push it further, and when something has already arrived before I fully understand it. I still don’t think it’s something I can know completely in advance. But through conversations, and different perspective and insights I shared with other amazing artists around me, I feel I’ve learned to trust that uncertainty a little more. Introducing Yujin Jung (b. 2000) @_yuijn Yujin Jung is a painter who questions contemporary visual culture. From an early age, she was exposed to advertising production environments, developing an interest in the constructed nature of images and the gap between what is visible and what remains concealed. She graduated from Chelsea College of Arts, where her practice was further shaped through theoretical engagement. Inspired by a philosopher who described contemporary society as a form of digital panoptic visual communication, she introduced recurring circular structures that reflect systems of observation and the tension between visibility and invisibility. Drawing on aerial and satellite perspectives, her practice translates views inaccessible to the human eye into painting. Her works construct images that are simultaneously near and distant, visible yet elusive. “For me, painting materialises the contradictions embedded within systems of seeing in the image-saturated era. <Bending the Gaze> 2026 65 × 150 cm Oil and texture paste on canvas There is no fixed orientation to this work. During the exhibition, it was installed inverted , unsettling the viewer’s sense of visual certainty. The image resists a singular direction, operating instead as a field where perception is continuously negotiated. What appears stable begins to tilt; what seems resolved slips back into ambiguity. 🩶 by @_yuijn

Yujin Jung @_yuijn 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘻𝘦 2024 Oil on Canvas 162 x 112 cm “I paint to expose the fractures in seeing—those moments when vision slips, contradicts itself, and refuses to hold still,” Yujin said. Yujin Jung (b. 2000, South Korea) is a painter whose practice questions the stability of vision. Her sensitivity to constructed images was first developed through spending time in advertising set studios with her father - a place she observed scenes built to appear real yet always carrying traces of fabrication. This experience influenced her work to examine how perception is shaped by framing, omission, and contradiction. Yujin studied BA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL and is currently pursuing an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art to continue her investigation into how contemporary conditions, such as mapping systems, aerial perspectives, and algorithmic forms of sight, mediate the way images are encountered. Working across oil, watercolour, and mixed media, she creates shifting surfaces where forms blur, invert, and dissolve, exposing the fragility of visual understanding. In 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘻𝘦, fleeting images surface only to slip away again: an inverted portrait appears as a misremembered echo, while the residue of a monumental cake lingers as softened colour and gesture.
