The program will encourage locomotion as these moving lobbies become extensions of the home, stimulating users to not only live in their space but also network with others. The ultimate goal is to build a sense of permanence and collective identity, mimicking the language of Harlem throughout the bricks of the buildings.

You Are Not Here proposes an integrated ecosystem that aims to reignite the connection between body, mind, career, and community. This would be made possible with the implementation of a gym, flexible work spaces both outdoors and intimate ones, a commercial space catered to boosting health, and nature woven within the fabric of the interior. As a result, young professionals are encouraged to move, interact, respond, pause, and create.

We think of movement on different scales: exterior of building, floor to floor, and within the apartment as they define the experience for the people. Using a moving lobby throughout the structure we create atypical floor plans that provide a dynamic and unique identity to each floor. Zooming into the apartments, moving elements such as the kitchen modules allow for the home to transform based on different social conditions: opening up to invitation or becoming more intimate.

As you navigate this post, the goal is to understand the technical components such as the millwork and envelope of YANH.

As Micro Housing becomes a contemporary solution to the urban housing crisis, users are confined to isolating, limited, and unsustainable conditions. The unactivated programs heavily divide living, working, and social elements, causing a disconnect between residents, poor well-being, and creating a space that doesn’t effectively accommodate long-term human needs.

Questions to consider:
- How can we design these modular spaces without losing the essence of “home”?
- How can circulation be used to design communities that cultivate long-term communal belonging?

You Are Not Here (YANH) offers a contemporary twist to what Micro Housing can be within the urban landscape, using locomotion as a spatial driver to define spaces, mimic human movement and foster a stronger sense of belonging.

As you navigate this post, the goal is to understand the conceptual thinking, organization and internal systems of YANH.
