One step closer to going racing. 🏁

Spent the weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park with @lightspeedclub completing my SCCA licensing evaluation ahead of my first SCCA race weekend here later this month.

Came into the weekend a moonshot away from pace and somehow walked away running sub-2:00 laps. Pretty wild improvement over two days, and a huge amount of that came from having my friend and pro driver @edgarlauracing coaching me throughout the weekend.

A lot learned, a lot of time found, and still a hell of a lot left to learn - one thing I have confirmed, I love this shit.

Shout out @porsche_fresno for helping me keep the car track ready. Your guys in service are studs 🫡

Monaco GP Qualifying (basically the race) - I dreamed of this day for 30+ years. It did not disappoint. Charles breaking the lap record to take provisional pole, hearing the Tiffosi go absolutely ape shit and then immediate silence after Lando knocked him off pole by a little over a tenth. I cried, probably 3 times, I’ll be honest. I was overwhelmed, grateful doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling. taken in Beau Rivage, Monaco by @_zach.haight_

Childhood dream achieved, I’m not ashamed to say I cried when this was coming off the truck. 30+ years of chasing ownership - we’re back in business, with an RS car. Fck that Kia Niro and it’s sad excuse for a driver, disrespectfully.

Round one with @hmc_racing in the Funyo - test day at Circuit de Paul Armagnac (Nogaro) -thank you for the opportunity @funyoracing you’ve built a pretty awesome little car alongside some incredible hospitality. of course @davidcheng_fei and @motorsportconciergeservices for setting this up during my trip. Last but not least, @erinnpaigeeee for supporting me through the weekend with absolutely no idea what to expect.

Went well, over drove the car in FP1 and learned a ton before overheating the engine in FP2 with 4 minutes remaining. Back in the car late September for a full race weekend. Stay tuned 🙃

Le Mans 24 2026 - I watch this race every year on my birthday, and for my 36th birthday I was finally able to attend.

@davidcheng_fei a long time friend (25 years~) and his team DCR put 2 cars on the podium here in 2017 winning their class in LMP2 and cementing David as a legend of Le Mans.

2026 results were almost as good with @georgekurtz and @crowdstrikeracing taking the pro-am victory in LMP2 and as a @manthey_racing @kevinestre fan, watching them beat the Shopify car to do it was the cherry on top.

5/8/26 - RIP Big Red [WERE FINE]

We had something to celebrate, I’d wrapped a project at work that morning that had kept me chained to my desk for the prior 30+ days - Erin and I went and got a burger and fries 🍟 on our way back we were in the left lane of 2 east bound lanes, below the speed limit and directly to the left of the wrong Kia Niro. An early 30s father of a newborn who had clearly not been sleeping well just wasn’t paying attention and was frustrated with a slower driver in front of him.

Without looking or signaling he began entering our lane as if we weren’t there, I recognized this, with cars behind me I couldn’t brake to avoid him and with median curbing to my left I couldn’t expand the road to create space for him.

He bounced big red off the median curbing (both left wheels) - after that Erin and I were passengers, sailing right into a tree on the right side of the road.

That car did everything it was asked from the moment I turned the key for the first time until the moment it landed from the impact to the tree. We not only lived but we walked away with superficial injuries compared to what could have happened.

Thank you Big Red for the memories and the protection. Thank you god for letting us live to drive another day. 💚 by @_zach.haight_
