Sydney based Burmese-Thai beatmaker ZZARNI came through to the studio, performing a set solely comprising of his own. From luxurious Meek Mill flips to detailed percussive intstrumentals, ZZARNI delivered an electric solo set. Shoutout to @_zzarni for pulling up, this one’s special. 🐟 What started with Zarni’s approach to sampling became the visual direction for ‘Offcut Luxury.’ Now, Elly Malone reveals the finished cover.

For the final chapter of our project with @photoshop, Elly Malone reveals her finished artwork to Sydney DJ and producer Zarni, bringing together his street photography, the warm tones of the Pataka Boys reference and the story behind the playlist’s title.

🐟 From street photography to the final ‘Offcut Luxury’ cover, Elly Malone breaks down how she brought her concept for Zarni’s Complex playlist to life using @photoshop.

Starting with one of Zarni’s own photographs, Elly used tools like Generative Fill, Transform and Layer Cleanup alongside colour, illustration and texture to reshape the original image and build out the final artwork.

🤝 Melbourne illustrator and graphic designer Elly Malone teamed up with Sydney DJ and producer Zarni to create the cover artwork for his new Complex playlist, Offcut Luxury.

Taking inspiration from Zarni’s approach to sampling, Elly worked with Zarni’s street photography and a range of references from the playlist to start building the artwork in @photoshop.

From the story behind playlist to the colours, imagery and references that shaped the final direction, watch Elly break down the creative process behind the cover.

Warmth amongst others

A solo exhibit in joint efforts with Community Bake Sale 3.0 run by @1.mmke and friends. Raising mutual aids funds for First Nations and Palestinian families.

The photo series from the bridge march was probably my favourite from last year.

While gridlocked and sitting in the rain, I had covered my drenched camera under my jacket. The warmth from my body had fogged up the camera and had blurred my viewfinder making it near impossible to focus and see.

Never would I have thought that the drenching of my camera would simultaneously capture both the cold numbness and the crowd’s warmth so beautifully. This is probably the closest my camera has embodied how I’ve felt so viscerally. And for that I love this series.

However, I never really shared it around to the wider public (apart from usbgallery) as I found myself conflicted. While I took these photos, they are not mine to benefit from. But in joining forces with mates to help fundraise, all profits from photo sales will go to mutual aid.
