One year ago today, I got a lifesaving, life-affirming combination chest masculinization surgery and prophylactic mastectomy. The moment I woke up in recovery, I thought, “thank god: I’m finally back to normal.” Every day since then has been an absolute blessing.

My transness is one of my favorite things about me - and, as somebody with a genetic predisposition to breast cancer, it also likely saved my life. Had I not been planning top surgery, they would not have found a lump that was already in my chest - and that had to come out anyway. I am grateful every day that I chose myself, my identity, and my love for and of my body, and scheduled that surgery.

Gender affirming care saves (and enhances!) lives. And - it’s pretty sick walking around without a shirt on 😉

Big thanks to @filipino.grigio and Morgan Dean for making my surgery day and aftercare flawlessly wonderful; @doctorvyas for giving me what my friends call “the Ferrari of Chests” and Dr. Yeh for helping ensure I will be breast cancer-free for the rest of my life (🤞); my mom for being my mom; and all the incredible friends and coworkers for feeding and caring for me in the weeks after (@tkougg @instaless_ali @hgraceyoon @idaesmiley @jessiehirschhorn @charliehano @eloweeeeze, everyone at CO_LAB, & more). 🏳️‍⚧️🌈✨
