#fridayfashiononthesofa On my deck swing again -my newest spot for photos. Wearing the Merritt button up shirt from True Bias made in a light weight cotton stripe from #surgefabrics. Cool and comfortable. Sized down since it is generously oversized.
Wore to my local #americansewingguild meeting today. Worn with a cardigan sweater as it was cool this morning. Sun’s out this afternoon. Rain from Hurricane Isaias coming Sunday. Enjoying my summer garb while I can.
Usually use Grainline Archer shirt pattern for my button up shirts and wanted a more oversized dropped sleeve pattern. I like the Merritt and have another stripe one in progress. Thinking of going up one size for a plaid flannel. Will see ….. #sewover50 #merrittshirt

#fashiononasofafriday On my front porch rocker wearing a new top and slacks made this spring. Top is the new Pattern Emporium On Repeat Shirt. Fabric was a remnant just big enough to fit the pattern pieces. Great to squeeze another make out of it. Free Range slacks were sewn earlier and made in a cotton linen blend. It had been in my stash for at least a year, maybe 2. The print will move easily in fall topped with a jacket or cardigan. Hence another entry for #sagamseasonseptember.

#fashiononasofafriday brought to you today by Fashion on the Swing. Had this Style Arc Melody tunic for a number of years. The pattern pieces were even cut out. When I saw this fun vibrant rayon print from Style Makers Fabric, it went right in the cart. Due to the hot humid summer, it languished for a few months before being cut out.
Now it’s just in time for fall and #sagamseasonseptember. Although it’s turned hot again, it a good transition piece.
Like the 3/4 sleeves, longer back, and the soft drape. Like it so well, I’ve ordered 2 more rayon prints.😊 Thanks to @suestoney, @sewing_in_spain, and @whendy7 for this month’s prompt. I was a bit speedier this month; might even get one of the other prints made.

Sewn in August for #SAGAM #SagamAmbitiousAugust. Worn in Vermont on a short vacation in late August/early September. First 2 photos are on the front of our VRBO cabin. Posted a week into September. Still sewing, wearing my makes, not taking photos or posting much though. The Paola jacket made in a cotton linen blend from Quilters Corners, a local quilt shop that is carrying a selection of apparel fabrics. Yea. This was ambitious due to changing to inset pockets topstitched down to prevent flapping. Added bias binding to facings and hem. (Last photo) Elongated back facing (photo 3), and widened front facings by an inch. Decided not to add buttons. This is the fifth Paola jacket I’ve made. Thanks to @spoolriversewing, @sewing_in_spain, and @suestoney for their fun August theme. #sewover50 @quilterscornerva #paolajacket by @a.c.murray

Took my first Eco dyeing and printing class with Katherine Brenner. What fun, so much to learn and so many options. First photo is the last 2 pieces I printed and dyed. After the leaves were placed on the mordant silk noir that was dipped in an iron solution and spritzed with vinegar, a dyed blanket was placed on top. Then rolled and steamed. Love the sapphire blue. Second photo shows the original printed silk noir and after its indigo bath. The last photo is the first piece I printed.class was over 2 days and she’s planning some follow up classes. I’m game. Not sure what I will do with this except to stare at them and smile.

Spent a fun morning in Dix Park in Raleigh NC. Checked out 3 of the fabulous larger than life trolls. They were crafted from reclaimed wood, twigs and recycled materials. Wandered the 5 acres of the biggest sunflowers I’ve ever seen. Ok only walked part of it. One area had rows of hammocks for laying back and checking out the pine trees above. What a fun morning.

Showing off my new summer cotton pants. Fabric is a cream light weight cotton twill from stash. Not sure when or why I bought it. Perfect for a summer pant. Used Simplicity 1203 - an old pattern that I like for its elastic waist and leg width (not too wide or too narrow). Only took a day to make. Worn with McCall 7247 top made 4 years old using a cotton panel print from Marcy Tilton fabrics. #sewover50 #so50pants #summerpants by @a.c.murray

This might be my longest work in progress. The fabric has been in my stash for a long l o n g time (20+ years). It’s a rain resistant fabric from my working days bought to evaluate various water resistant fabrics. Fast forward to 2024 when Love Notions introduced their Clef Coat pattern. I promptly ordered it and cut out the jacket in March 2024. And then it sat. Took it to retreat last fall and it came home never coming out of the bag. A few weeks ago, I decided it was time. Practiced making a welt pocket. The fabric does not press well and is a bit stiff and I didn’t like how the welt pocket looked. So no welt pocket. Does have kangaroo pockets which I like a lot. Added binding for the collar facing, the front center seams, and the hems. Swipe to see the inside.
