A considered take on midlife, home & style.
The beautiful, the ordinary & the occasionally ridiculous.

A month of noticing.

Colors, textures, beautiful spaces, little details, and things that simply caught my eye.

A few favorites from my daily Pinterest rabbit holes. October, considered. 🤎

Some houses are just meant for fall. Mine happens to know it.

And there’s a little someone watching from the front door. 🐾🍂

My sister asked us to come help get her new apartment settled.

So naturally, we took that as a challenge. 😂

In less than 36 hours, we moved furniture, unpacked boxes, styled bookcases, hung approximately 4,000 pieces of art (give or take), mounted two giant TVs, dealt with every cord known to man, and made a very impressive mess along the way.

And we bought absolutely nothing.

We just used what she already owned — things she’d collected, inherited, loved and brought with her — and figured out where they belonged.

By the end of the first night, we turned off the big lights, turned on the lamps, stood back and realized: there she is.

Because I don’t think making a home is really about filling rooms with new things.

It’s about taking the things that already mean something to you and making them feel like they belong.

Still needs rugs, nightstands and a dining table.

But it already feels like home.

And apparently Danny and I have a side hustle now. 😂

A little more of what makes October worth noticing. 🍂

Turns out, getting older isn’t about caring less.

It’s about finally admitting what you never really cared about in the first place.

What’s on your list? by @a.life.considered

Apparently, I have some explaining to do.

I’m very particular about my house, but the things I love most about it probably make the least sense to anyone else.

Thirty lamps. A buffet that could be hiding anything. Art I made because I couldn’t find what I wanted. My dad tucked into my closet. And a dog who has never once respected the concept of assigned seating.

Turns out, the things that make a house yours aren’t always the things that make the most sense.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Apparently I have some preferences.

Boutique over big.
Steak frites over foam.
Art I love over art that matches.
The neighborhood spot over the hot spot.
What I love over whatever’s trending.
And a room that looks like it’s lived a little.

Not better. Just more me.

New shoes. Same long-held belief.

Leopard is a neutral.

My nightstand used to hold a lamp and a book.

Somewhere along the way it became a fully stocked emergency response unit for midlife.

Apparently I’m now sleeping between a pharmacy, a spa, and a small hardware store.

If you’re also negotiating with perimenopause one night at a time… welcome. Pull up a chair.

What’s the one completely random thing that’s become a permanent resident on your nightstand?

Apparently one of the perks of getting older is realizing not everything about you needs to become a personal development project.

I still want to be invited to the party. I just reserve the right not to come.

I’m making the bed even if it’s 8 p.m.

I’m not packing light.

I’m not staying in a hotel room that looks like a prison cell just to save a few dollars.

And after years of trying, I’m finally willing to admit that fake tans and I are never going to work things out.

Growth is important.

But so is knowing when to call it. 😂

What’s one thing about yourself you’ve officially stopped trying to change?

A little fall around the house, a finished puzzle, a quick trip to Nashville, Danny’s new jeans, and Brie doing absolutely nothing productive.

The Roll. 🍂

Worth Considering: Maybe we should spend a little less time worrying about what everyone else thinks and a little more time building a life we actually like.

After all, we only get one. We might as well make it a good one.
