Giddy to announce my debut single, Juniper Child, from my upcoming EP, Unknown! This first track has been a massive learning experience as I navigate the recording world and finding my voice, but I’m proud of what I’ve written and challenging myself to take the leap on 6/21. Just adding some sprinkles.

In the meantime, I had a lot of fun designing this album art! It’s meant to convey the whimsical magic of childhood and my love for home movies. Graphics are another part of my storytelling process and one of my goals is to utilize various mediums to bring these visions to life. Stay tuned! 🙃🌸🐛

Hello, Instagram! It’s been a minute since I’ve posted here. Remember last November when I excitedly declared that I would share weekly progress journals of my music journey, and only completed one? I’d like to blame my usual experience with ADHD, but it actually became an incredibly challenging winter. One of my cats passed away quite tragically, and then my grandpa entered hospice right before Christmas and left us shortly after. I barely had time to grieve either once my grandma suffered a major, life-altering heart attack just a few weeks later. Add the weight of this political climate, the increasing inability to keep up with bills, nursing a crew of geriatric animals, navigating life in a newer city… and you’ve got yourself a girly who is just trying to get by. Passion projects were forced to the back seat of this rollercoaster I’ve been riding.

The good news is, I’ve returned better than expected! Nothing lights a fire under your ass like nearing the halfway mark to 40, and the determination to release my EP this summer is one of the few things giving me hope while the world is burning. I was even able to transform some of my grief into a new song or two and I’m really looking forward to sharing them soon. Weekly progress posts will resume eventually, but right now I’ve got my eyes set on a single! Stay tuned. 🐛 taken in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by @a.mariemusic

My idea of a perfect date night is sitting in the studio with @will.richter. Yesterday @tashsultanaofficial came on in the car and he said, “You’re learning this song when we get home!” I didn’t believe that I was ready to play it, but sure enough, he got me jamming! Tash has been a huge influence for me so it was really cool to learn this one, even though it wasn’t perfect.

It takes a special kind of patience to sit with a beginner like me as I find my way along the fretboard, and Will is truly amazing at it. He’s trying to get me more comfortable with improvising solos since my ear is my strong suit. It’s always been a dream of mine to eventually jam alongside other musicians, to have those conversations without words. This was my first time trying it and I’m really excited to keep at it! If you stick around til the end, you’re a real one and you’ll catch us harmonizing with each other. I even learned how to BEND!!! I’m having so much fun. 🥲

Welcome to Weekly Recaps! It’s really important to me to document the ups and downs of this musical journey, so I felt like journaling would be a fun way to track progress and hold myself accountable to practicing each week. Plus it also gives me an excuse to design cute graphics again!

I don’t often see content from beginners when they’re first starting out bc it’s usually very repetitive with many mistakes and a great deal of frustration. As someone who is surrounded by pro guitar players, I think it’s vital to connect with others who are on the same level as me to prevent myself from comparing or getting discouraged. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled any time I get to watch my friends shred! I admire the shit outta them and it makes me excited for moments to come, but sharing with people who are also getting started helps to not feel so isolated at this critical stage. It offers a sense of encouragement and confidence that’s essential to keep going.

An extra special thank you to @will.richter, @creamcitymusic, and @powerselectricguitars for getting me inspired! This post is absolutely not for commission; I’m just really passionate. 😋

This little ditty is about being kind to people bc you never know what their story is. Feeling especially emo tonight!

These chords that I’ve been practicing during my first week of guitar actually belong to an entirely different cover I’m working on, but I needed to switch it up today. I decided to rework a verse I wrote that didn’t quite make it into one of my originals. I’m still not used to singing while playing, my voice is raw as shit, and I haven’t formally warmed up in months. But I committed to embracing my authentic self on this endeavor and this felt super real in a way I was proud of. Thx for listening.
