Next up in my sock quest is the #indomitable socks by the very talented @hunterhammersen.
I asked for, and received, this yarn and pattern from my then-boyfriend (now husband) for our 2nd Christmas together. I tried valiantly to knit it then but was met with the obstacles of not understanding what I was doing and never made this pattern or used the wool.

However! I have greatly increased my skillset since then and also with the aid of a crochet hook, I have sailed right along! These are delightful and the next pair I make will be two at a time for sure. by @a.murphy.x

🎶 Let's talk about socks 🧦 baby! 🎶

I have just gathered up what I hope is all of my sock yarns. These have been collected over a number of years, and some were gifted to me. I have 26x100g skeins in the basket, 15x50g skeins and a medium sized container of scraps (anything not a full skein).

This is a lot of yarn!

Recently I was influenced by @stoneknits with all of her beautiful socks (but really it was the Puffin socks!!) to knit up a bunch of colourwork socks. I have plans. (And a bunch of self-striping that will turn into regular socks.)

This is a long term, slow paced project. Most of the socks resulting from this project will be gifted. Hopefully I can learn to wear some handknit socks and keep a few for me. by @a.murphy.x

Have recently been inspired to knit some fancier socks than I usually do.

Using yarn I already owned and some new mint to contrast, hopefully will have some nice snuggly new socks soon! 🧦

I made this shirt!

It's the second shirt I've seen in the past few weeks. This is the #TrueRomance top from @patternemporium_kate and it was pretty fun to put together. Was an excellent confidence builder with the incredible step by step pattern tutorial.

I'm in love with my choice to use contrast sleeves instead of the same dark green - lightens the garment for three-season wear-ability. 🍀💚 by @a.murphy.x

Finished!

Tested the #RenfewSocks for @thespinnacle with a skein of the Entwined colorway from @bramble_ridge. Picked it up at the 2024 market and it was the perfect choice for this pattern. I like short socks so these are shorty sockies 😎

Lots of good things to say about the pattern and I am excited to cast on another pair soon! by @a.murphy.x

"Florals for spring. How original"

Finished fixing the waistband on this skirt. Basted the layers together, gathered them and stitched them to the elastic. Almost had it perfect! If it wasn't chiffon, I would have unpicked and fixed but I have worked this fabric a lot already and didn't want to test my luck with how delicate it is.

Tried it on and it fits like a dream and is going to be worn several times in spring and summer!

It doesn't look like much.

That's a rolled hem on silk chiffon skirt - the top edge to provide structure and prevent unraveling.

Everything I've heard is that silk, chiffon and a host of other fabrics are notoriously difficult to work with. I've never used a rolled hem foot before so I did a smidge of practice and when I worked, I went for it!

Tomorrow, I'll sew the elastic band together for the waist and then attach the lining and silk outer of the skirt all together.

Progress over perfection. Working on my "skills development" theme of 2026!

How is it that I can get so much done when the boys are out? If they had been home, this would have taken at least two hours.

Anyway. Post-holiday reset of my kitchen and dining space. Now onto fold a thousand towels and sheets...

How to pin out your shrinked sweater to stretch it out again.

Use T-pins or another sturdy pin, and a soft surface they can poke into. This can also be a spare bed or some carpet if you don't have the foam blocks.

Use a good amount to reduce the scalloping edges, but not so many that you're damaging the structure of the piece.

Once it's pinned out, leave it to dry. If you need it in a hurry you can place a fan to blow over the sweater. You can put it in a sunny spot, near a heat source (but not too close, wool will get crispy), or if using foam blocks that are sturdy enough, prop it up against something to let gravity pull the water down.

Once dry, unpin, try on and hopefully it fits again! Depending on how much it shrank, you may need to repeat the process.

Part two of this morning's sweater adventure.

The pinning out part is key to having your sweater hold its new shape when it is dry. By doing this, you retrain the fibers to stay stretched out, so it'll fit better when worn.

When I wash this next time, I will make sure it is by hand! And with the next wash, it may need to be pinned out again, or maybe just laid out. It will depend on what the sweater does over the next few wears.

Part two!

Removing the excess water will help your sweater dry faster. Using the squish method prevents the tension and torque from the twist and wrong. Wringing your wool fabric will introduce a lot of warping and excess tension on the strands, causing problems with fit and longevity.

If your sweater has a lot of water in it, roll it out and then change to another towel and roll it again. This is great for thick or bulky wools.
