A little something I've been working on, and it brings me so much delight!

This little vessel is make from scrap fabric. I rolled the fabric around leftover quilt batting, then coiled it together to make a vessel. I have another one in the works that I'm going to give a slightly different shape.

For now, it accompanies me during my hand sewing projects to catch all my thread ends.

I'm working on an Artist Manifest junk book. I've made all the pages out of junk mail (and actually I've made like 35 of these books because I keep getting so much junk mail) and each page had a portion of the Manifesto incorporated into the design.

I'm enjoying the slow process and the structure of working within the book.

What are you making lately?

If only all sewing could be accomplished by a little tap...

But actually, as much as I like having a finished block, the real joy of sewing is in the process. I enjoy piecing. I'm still learning to enjoy the actual quilting part, but that might also come with a better machine...

What part of quilting do you wish could be finished with a snap?

Just some cake to celebrate almost the completion of April! (Which is also my birthday month, btw)

I made a stamp out of cardboard for the cake layers and candles. Then I added details with acrylic paint.

Saturday Morning Boquet

Mixed media on a recycled pizza box! That's what I used for my canvas. I'm a poor artist, so I always reuse and upcycle where I can and there is always so much paper laying around if you look for it.

I've had this one sitting on my desk for a while and I finally put some of the finishing touches on it. by @a.nonymous.maker

A small fish to say hello.

I made the fish stamp out of a foam egg cartons. I did have to paint over the red one with a small brush because the transfer didn't work as well as I was hoping. But I like the way it turned out. Playing around always leads to interesting results! by @a.nonymous.maker

Just some faces on a Thursday.

I had some leftover paint on my pallet after a project so I started painting faces on scrap paper and then I couldn't stop.

So then I poured out some more paint, and then I painted more faces, and well you get the point.

Some of them ended up a little muddy, but I liked these ones.

Keep making weird art, y'all.

Another mandala 7/100

I've been working on this one all week. I spend a few minutes developing it each night as I listen to an audiobook. It's a good way to wind down for the day.

I develop the pattern as I go, working from the center outwards, and it is always a delight to see the finished project.

I love a serendipitous little journal page.

I started out with just some scraps of construction paper and no plan. After coming back to what I'd pasted down, I realized it resembled a sunrise, and I spent way too long cutting tiny triangles to fill the little gaps.

The perfect homage to spring.

I have a problem.

I'm not able to throw away even the tiniest scraps. Not of paper. Not of fabric.

I'm in the process of making a quilt to donate for my local quilt guild. The quilt is made with donate fabric, and I just can't get rid of even the smallest cut off.

So, I've been making more things and trying out different techniques.

Photo descriptions:
1. The scraps, with my finger for scale
2. Quilt-as-you-go costers
3. Hand-sewn 9-patches (I think I cut squares to make 36 of these)
4. The smallest scrappy quilts. I place all the small pieces on fusible interfacing and then machine quilt over to top to keep everything together. I think these are going to become Christmas ornaments (also to donate) and I will add some hand stitching.
5. The smallest scappy quilts, unfinished.
6. The actual quilt, pinned and ready to be quilted. It's machine pieced, but I think I'm going to do some hand quilting with embroidery thread.

Anyway, I *still* have scraps from this project. So what should I make next?

Another quick Random Word page.

My word today was MOTIF, which I thought was a very artsy word. For me, motif means repeating patern, and I immediately thought of a fleur-de-lis.

I had some old gas receipts at hand, and I couldn't help but think that a prominant repeating pattern in my life is filling up my gas tank. I pasted those down, and then used a template of a fleur-de-lis I drew so the receipts would peek through.

Looking at it now, I wish I would have put a bit more red tape so that there was some in every fleur-de-lis.

A quick morning creation

I designed my own prompt that I had a lot of fun with. It combines two of my passions, art and language.

First, I used a random word generator to select a word. I got "electron"

Then, I chose 3 random pieces of media (here a green marker, purple colored pencil, and blue paint) and some adhesives and let my hands create something that felt like "electron."

Next, I flipped through some junk mail and cut out words and phrases that I associated with the word "electron." After gathering a bunch of words, I spent time arranging the words into a kind of found poem. I let the different words guide me, embracing the serendipity of what things had happened to fall together and what I maybe unintentionally selected on the back of a word. And after I'd made my original poem, I went back again and added any of the leftover words that I felt still fit.

This process was quick, maybe about 30 minutes, and I tried to get my brain out of the way and just feel my way through the process.

I think I will for sure be doing this again. A very relaxing, spontaneous process.
