I haven’t posted in a bit, so I thought I’d do a recap of the past two quarters!

Winter quarter started with joining the Honey Mag core visual team and working on our first issue! I made some illustrated graphics for different sections of the magazine and had some of my work featured, as seen in the picture. I am excited to work with the team on our second issue in the fall, and until then, be sure to check out our first!

I also had the opportunity to work on Oceans Healthcare’s collaboration with SCADpro to develop therapeutic outdoor environment design standards. From researching therapeutic landscape design and behavioral health best practices to creating illustrated mockups and designing branding assets, I was able to apply guidelines to my creative process. An NDA prevents me from sharing any of my work from this project for now.

I have officially completed my Music Composition minor! During the winter, I had the opportunity to compose for Tell Tale and Late Night Buzz . It was so surreal hearing my work being played and sung for projects like this. This picture is from the Late Night Buzz set, where I played trumpet in the live band! I am working on a Music Composition section on my website, so my music will be shared soon, and I look forward to sharing some current projects!

SCADjam has continued to grow since starting it freshman year. Groups within our jazz and orchestra ensembles have had multiple gigs and playing opportunities around SCAD. We were also featured in Honey Mag’s first issue, and continue to have multiple weekly rehearsals and quarterly open mic performances. We welcome all experience levels and types of musicians, so reach out if you are interested in joining us!

I completed not only my Music Composition Minor, but also my Sequential Art Minor! Spring quarter was difficult for me due to some worsening health issues, so I had to change my mindset from making portfolio-worthy pieces to getting my work done the best I could. Because of this, I am not the biggest fan of the things I made but thought I’d post them anyway. Here is my final exterior from my last SEQA class done with gouache and colored pencil. Over break, I worked on my submission for the @postwave_books Illustration Prize! The prompt was to illustrate a wrap around cover and two page spread for a children’s book involving tea. My premise teaches kids the benefits of different types of teas through characters’ interactions at a tea stand, as they each receive a tea that will aid in their activity. Both pieces were done with watercolor and touched up with colored pencil on 24 x 18 inch paper! by @a.schweikart

Here are the rest of my narrative illustration projects from this quarter!

Our final was to create an illustration for three of the seven deadly sins, so I made gluttony, wrath, and envy into Magic the Gathering-inspired cards. I used watercolor, colored pencil, and gouache for all three.

The last two slides are from the project before in which we had to pick a quote to illustrate. Mine are based off lyrics from Fiona Apple’s song “Love Ridden,” and the first is made with watercolor and colored pencil while the second is oil pastel.

Here are the main projects I’ve completed in my Narrative Illustration class so far this quarter! The prompt for the first two illustrations was to reverse the role of Pinocchio and the whale. I used oil pastel for the first and gouache and colored pencil for the other. The assignment for the last two, each also shown without text, was to make book covers for Hansel and Gretel - one changing up the story, and the other keeping it the same. I used gouache and graphite for the first and gouache and colored pencil for the other.

Forced myself to do my only two school projects of the summer digitally as someone who basically only does traditional. I tried!! One is a Japanese Breakfast wrap around CD cover and the other is of cowboys riding robot jerboas.

Otherwise, I was stuck in Wisconsin for the summer but got to see a lot of cool animals with bestie so it was worth it!! by @a.schweikart

IM DONE WITH MATTECH FOR SEQA!!! We had to come up with a concept for an adventure story book and make chapter headers and illustrations for it. First, we used scratchboard, then nib and ink, brush and ink, and watercolor last. I also included some in class exercises at the end. I had fun with these projects! by @a.schweikart
