The weekend had been a whirlwind of celebration — dinners, laughter, and the kind of moments that linger long after the candles fade. The only time we could find for Angela’s portraits was Sunday morning. Venice, even in winter, wakes early; the light dances across the canals, and by mid-morning, the city hums with life. So we began before the crowds, chasing that quiet hour when the lagoon still feels like it belongs to you.

Angela, radiant despite having slept barely three hours after her birthday gala. There was something cinematic about her presence against the soft Venetian light, as if the city itself paused to admire her.

We wandered to Caffè Florian, the legendary heart of Piazza San Marco. Established in 1720, it has hosted poets, artists, and dreamers for centuries — from Byron to Proust — each drawn to its mirrored salons and gilded charm. That morning, it became our stage. Between the clink of crystal glasses and the faint notes of a violin drifting through the square, the portraits took on a quiet rhythm of their own.

It was the perfect conclusion to a weekend steeped in beauty — a celebration not just of a milestone, but of a woman whose presence turns every moment into something worth remembering.

Btw the first image by @pasquale_brancat is one of my all time favourites ever.

That final evening, we gathered at Palazzo Loredan—a thirteenth-century Venetian palace on the Grand Canal, one of the city’s oldest surviving homes, its Byzantine loggia still arching gracefully over the water. It was the last night of a three-day celebration, a formal dinner for a fifth birthday, though the setting belonged to another age entirely.

The table seemed to suspend time. Candles flickered low, catching the edges of gilt-edged porcelain and the soft pleats of a vintage Oscar de la Renta gown. But what held me were the frescoes: woodland scenes climbing the walls, painted centuries ago, their trees and dappled light reaching down toward the table as if to meet it. And the table answered back. Garlands trailed along linen like undergrowth. Fruit and flowers spilled across silver. It was as if the forest had stepped quietly out of the plaster and settled there among the glass and candlelight.

Every element was considered. Nothing felt borrowed from the present. Surrounded by stone and shadow and painted leaves, the room held its breath—and I just tried to keep up.
