Somogear/Infraim IRACK - The IRACK is a combination strobe and infrared detector produced by Infraim (Somogear). Strobe is cool and works like a strobe but, lets talk about the IR detect feature.

While not the first strobe on the market to feature an IR Detect functionality the IRACK is centered on 850nm vs the higher ranges for the Helstar DTA and similar. The IRACK is using a set of 4x photodiodes (#4) that are aimed downward at a roughly 45 degree angle to help reject overhead lights and the sun. With the sensors are cocked the IRACK should ideally be worn dead center on a helmet. The IRACK has two sensitivity levels with a healthy warning that sensitivity level 2 will give false alarms in direct sunlight. The IRACK itself will vibrate when it receives an IR signal.

With this in mind I was able to perform a couple tests using a PEQ15 (~850nm, #1 and #3) and TerrapinX LRF(905nm #5). Distances varied but overall it either worked or didnt.
+Indoor- Sensitivity 1 and 2 were used interchangeably, some overhead lights would trigger Sensitivity 2
**PEQ15 - Detected all modes including diffused illuminator
**LRF - Detected all pulses in a constant scan mode

+Outdoor - Night - Sensitivity level 2 used
**PEQ15 - Detected in all modes EXCEPT diffused illuminator
**LRF - Detected all pulses in a constant scan mode

+Outdoor - Overcast day - Sensitivity level 1 used
**PEQ15 - Detected all modes including diffused illuminator
**LRF - Detected all pulses in a constant scan mode

You can see in the attached videos that the hard plastic cover over the internal works to diffuse the IR light. While the performance is not truly equal in all directions this diffuse behavior does improve performance when a laser strikes between two detectors. Beam divergence is going to cover the entire unit at any relevant distance anyway.

tl;dr - Its a strobe with DTA features, not a daytime capable LRF detector (SPIDER). Still very cool to be aware of.

For a Rev2 I would like a stronger vibration and more focus on IR detect than strobe functionality.

Been working on what im calling TINMAN and finally got to let other people meet them this past weekend. 10km LOS range, days of battery life, scriptable up/down patterns and low per unit cost.

I was annoyed with every remote target system being thousands of dollars, rated for being hit with a gau8 and weighing 100lb. Thats probably great for institutional usage but I wanted the other side of the coin.

Enter TINMAN. Its a series of mostly 3D printed hinges, linkages and servo boxes that allow you to rebuild the units should they take a hit. By going with a 1x2 instead of a steel base you can screwgun the thing together and apart in a couple minutes. The units themselves can be weighted down or staked down and are easily rucked and placed in the most evil places possible. Unit cost low and battery life very decent. Also the remote was designed to resemble a movie prop so its very satisfying to use.

Future improvements are going to include muzzle flash, sound and hit detection with adjustable "fatality" thresholds. by @a2grip
