Currently reading: The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides I don’t read as much fiction as I used to, but this book has completely pulled me back in. Without giving anything away, it’s a psychological thriller about a woman who stops speaking after a shocking act of violence, and the therapist determined to understand why. What’s struck me most isn’t just the mystery itself; it’s how the story slowly peels back layers of silence, trauma, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive difficult truths. It’s also made me think about something outside the book itself: how much we assume about people based on what they don’t say. Silence isn’t always the absence of a story; sometimes it’s protecting one. I’m not finished yet, so no spoilers please. A few days ago, I attended the Kayhikers Club gathering, and it genuinely exceeded my expectations. It was Kayhikers’ first time in our city, and the energy in the room was something else. The event was filled with young people who showed up and actually lent their voices, discussing the topics on the table with real thought and honesty. It was inspiring to watch, and honestly, a lot of fun. But I want to talk about something that doesn’t get said enough: networking is genuinely hard for some people. We often act like walking up to a stranger, introducing yourself, and striking up a conversation is easy for everyone. It’s not. For some of us, it takes real effort to push past the awkwardness and put ourselves out there. I did it anyway. I networked, I had conversations I wouldn’t normally initiate, and I stepped slightly outside my comfort zone. It wasn’t effortless, but it was worth it. If you’ve ever felt like networking doesn’t come naturally to you, you’re not alone. It’s a skill, not a personality trait, and like any skill, it gets easier the more you practice it. Grateful for events like this that bring young voices together in one room. A beautiful review is nice. But knowing why a client was happy with my work means even more. ❀ I recently completed a product review project, and I approached it the same way I approach customer support: I focused on the user experience, not just whether the product worked. Be audaciously crazy about what you believe in. Not “acceptable” crazy. Not “safe” crazy. The kind of crazy that makes people stop and ask, “Are you sure about this?” The kind that doesn’t need permission or approval to keep going. Because the truth is every idea that ever changed something started off looking a little insane to everyone watching from the sidelines. You don’t need everyone to understand your vision. Away for a while felt like a thousands of years. 😊 Hello, family! I’ve missed you all dearly. No posts. No comments. Not even a quick “Hi.” It wasn’t intentional. Work completely had my attention, and before I knew it, an entire week had gone by. One of the highlights of my weeks was being invited to the school anniversary celebration of someone I’ve looked up to for a long time. There’s something special about seeing people who have inspired you being celebrated for the impact they’ve made. It does something to you. It reminds you that consistency pays. It reminds you that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. And most importantly, it gives you that extra push to keep showing up and giving your best. As I sat there watching the celebration unfold, I couldn’t help but think, “One day, I want my impact to speak for me too.” I’m genuinely grateful I got to witness such a beautiful moment. A few days ago, I shared that I attended a workshop on digitalization and budgeting. Powerful session, valuable takeaways, but that’s not what stuck with me the most. What actually amazed me was the customer service at the hotel we stayed in. There was a particular lady whose service alone shaped how I felt about the entire hotel experience. She was professional, organized, kind with her words, and patient, the kind of patient that doesn’t feel forced, but genuine. I thought I was the only one who noticed. But when I commended her, others in the group joined in and shared their own experiences with her too. It turned out everyone had quietly clocked the same thing. I asked if there was a way to leave a review specifically for her. She said yes and brought out a book for me to write in. One person. One consistent standard of service. And it shaped how an entire group of people remembered that hotel. Here’s the point: your customer service determines how far your brand grows. You can have the best product, the best space, the best pricing, but if the people representing your business at the front line aren’t capable, patient, and genuinely good with people, your business will struggle to stand out. Especially in industries with intense competition, where customers have endless alternatives. That one lady didn’t just do her job. She became a reason people would return and a reason I’m writing this post today. Never underestimate the value of hiring (and keeping) the right people for your customer facing roles.
