Meet the reader!

Hi I’m Jazz! I have been practicing divination for fifteen years and I offer services including reading tarot (Rider- Waite), teaching tarot classes, and tattoo sigil spell work. I designed my own tarot deck, with another on the way, that I have available to use in readings. Designing and researching my own decks deepened my understanding of the symbolic nature of each card and fine-tuned my skills with them and many others. I specialize in large group readings (one at a time, back to back to back…🤪) for corporate events, parties, and members only clubs- i’ve had the pleasure of working with the event teams at the Lantern houses, the Cortland building, smartsheet, the Brooklyn winery, and many more. I also love my longer in-depth sessions with one on one clients, in person or virtually. I blend traditional techniques with modern interpretations to deliver personalized readings that resonate with my clients. In my tarot classes and seminars I teach intuitive interpretation to help readers get off book, into researching archetypes and symbolism, and help them build storyline skills. The cup’s story in the minor arcana begins and ends with loving inspiration. Often interpreted as “the wedding” card, the 10 is the natural result of the cup’s journey. Doing the emotional work is sometimes painful, but the rewards you receive by leveling up in emotional intelligence are worth it.

The waters I use in my ace come from a picture I took in Sardinia, where my grandmother’s family comes from. It was important to me to start this suit on a basis of love and familial affection.

As for the 10, I prefer a more modern approach, as to not reinforce traditional values that may not apply to everyone. Raising a glass of champagne is a ritual for appreciating the good times- connecting and celebrating with those you love.

When it comes to the sun and the moon, I went unconventional. I love the story of Icarus. I think it plays really well with an otherwise ambiguous card like the sun, and this design is really about the reverse pull. If joy is how he feels souring in the sky on those wax wings, the reverse pull really captures the disappointment and drama we feel when the happiness is gone.

As for the moon- often read as shadow, mystery, and secrets- I prefer to highlight the mysterious and beautiful connection to spirit that intuition offers. There is nothing to be afraid of when it comes to spirit- your body reacts to an energy your mind does not recognize, and it makes sense that fear is the first emotion you feel. But, I think, upon further investigation, if we can let go of the “need to know” and settle into accepting the mystery for what it is, we deepen our connection with our intuition. Go bravely into the unknown and you’ll be surprised what you find! (Also needed to get my dog into the deck, that was fun too) by @a_m_tarot

Choosing to do jokers in the new deck, honestly, just started from not wanting to take sisyphus out of the deck. I used to use the archetype/story as my emperor card because I find authority to be a prison, and the existentialists- especially Camus and his focus on the absurd- promoted freedom and agency. If this is how I use my philosophy degree, then it was worth the money! These were really fun to make, and I am looking forward to how they’ll play out in a reading. by @a_m_tarot

The devil tarot card is rich was meaning, lore, and symbolism- the Devil can represent freedom of thought and enlightenment like we see in the story of Lucifer the light bringer, it can be deceitful, and over indulgent, the devil inside of you; modern representations of the devil deliver agency and bravery,and it can even be a little spicy 🥵. While researching and designing my next deck, I decided to include six devil cards so that I may fully cover all of the bases. i’m hoping to have it finished and printed by the time spooky season rolls around so I can use it in our Halloween parties! by @a_m_tarot
