This evening I was hooded embarking on this journey as a Black Woman Doctor of Social Work completed by the age of 31 and hooded at 32. I’m beyond grateful for the blessings God continues to bestow on me and my life. If no one else speaks for the women out there busting their a** to get things done, I am, especially us mothers specifically with small black boys. I did it and so could you. My motto is can’t stop, won’t stop. I’ve spent countless nights stressing over papers and even when I got to page 98, my mentor told me it wasn’t enough and made me change my entire direction of what I thought was good enough. I complained about it but in the end I said you know what complaining ain’t gon do it so let me see what I got in me to finish this for me, for us and finally got to page 119. Guess what she said, you close but I still need more but minor changes. But once I completed those changes and she called me saying congratulations Dr. Crosby, job well done. Yesterday, I closed Chapter 34, and today I opened Chapter 35! God is great, I’m incredibly thankful for every blessing, lesson, challenge, obstacle, win, loss, you name it that God has put before me. I rarely celebrate myself, if I do it’s in private. I’m usually so busy being a mommy, boss, friend, sister, daughter, niece and CEO! However, Tonight caused for not only a birthday celebration but a Congratulations celebration. I have opened my second Residential Treatment Facility, receiving the permit from the state the day before my birthday. Happiest birthday to my big smart courageous 6th year old! It has been such a joy to see you grow. I love how you love your mommy! My son is such a smarty pants! Too smart for his own good. He hates being corrected 😭loves being playful and loves to pick! Always wants to run and be the first one to open my door. Today we celebrated you!
