began my masters in dance journey at @theplacelondon last year, and it’s thanks to the love and labour of so many that I made it through the global south scholarship..
It’s been only eight months of the hybrid experience and it feels that we’ve been connected to each other, community and dance for a lifetime together ! And maybe we have…

Happy World Theatre Day 🤸 🤡
Here is a tribute to the changing landscape in the world of theatre. Who performs theatre ? Who has access to it ? Which stories are told ? Whose stories are told ?

Aagaaz Theatre Trust and its Repertory represents something groundbreaking in the theatre world. They not only are known to tell brave stories but also extend that world of performance, acting and narration to the youth at Nizamuddin basti.

Each time I decide to share about the work we do at aagaaz I’ve hesitated and then postponed it. I never find the right words or photos that do justice to how I feel about the work. Maybe a sense of longing and reminisce for these moments jolted me to share it here today. It’s been a bit more than a year since we started Fursat and Akshar, a program that formed from the needs of the women from the community in Nizamuddin basti.
Fursat, the attempt and persistence to create space for self and leisure, tied to creating more agency and access for women through literacy or Akshar. I’ve attempted to bring in movement and dance to the space of Fursat. It’s been about taking naps together, melting on the floor, laughing, role playing, reading, embroidering, walking at night and sharing this space with many other women.
I’ve come to realise that the body in this context is beautifully aware and responsive, but with less space for it to be identified as one’s own, to be held and acknowledged for its labour and courage. Though the program is ongoing it’s difficult for women to commit to their Fursat with challenges to their livelihood. This is a very real question and challenge that we are working together towards. And we shall persist.
I am also taking the liberty today, to ask for your support, to help this beautiful work to flourish and sustain. We have our
