In 2024, we proudly declared ourselves a Book Sanctuary, a designation that strengthens our library's status as a safe haven where the right to read is fiercely protected and books are shielded from obstacles such as censorship, bans and challenges. 📚

Here at AACPL, our libraries are spaces where intellectual freedom flourishes and ideas can be explored without fear of restriction or judgment.

#LibraryEffect ✨ - AACPL's Deale branch partnered with the @ChesapeakeBayFoundation to become the first library in Maryland to serve as an oyster shell recycling bin site 🙌

During a recent ribbon-cutting for the bin, CBF and Deale Library staff celebrated the installation as a foundational step toward the 2027 opening of Truman T. Semans Center for Oyster Restoration and Innovation (Truman Oyster Center), which will spearhead oyster restoration advancement for the entire watershed region.

“At the library, we love serving our community, and the Chesapeake Bay is at the heart of South County culture, making this the perfect opportunity to support an initiative that will benefit the area for generations to come," said Branch Manager Bridget Bloomer.
